It was also a continuation of the Civil war. The James-Younger gang were ex-Confederate guerillas who weren't offered the same amnesty regular soldiers were. The Earp's were from Illinois (albeit their ally Doc Holliday was from Georgia) vs the Texan Red Sash gang.

Then there was class warfare with big ranchers vs small landowners, and of course the ethnic cleansing of natives.

The 3:10 to Yuma remake was a very entertaining movie as was the movie Hostiles. I wonder how realistic those movies were.

Yes this is true. However, it’s useful to isolate one or two moral issues to dramatize without having the distractions of the gray nuances of regular life.

That’s why the formula works with other “non-traditional” westerns such as Star Wars.

How many folks here get Grit tv

Many people don't realize they get some free live TV channels with most smart TVs and on Rokus.

Grit TV is one of the free channels. I love putting it on at night to sleep or work day when wfh.

I discovered the Gunsmoke channel on Pluto TV. It’s been playing on my ipad for 3 or 4 weeks now. Non-stop.

Classic Biblical story of good vs. evil. Pro wrestling was the same before the mid 90’s (babyfaces/good guy vs. heels/bad guy).

Yes. A lot of bad blood between north and south lingered in the west.
