if you need a shadow then get a female German Shepherd. I feel safe as can be when I am trying to shite with her sticking her paw under the door waiting for me to get done.

Yikes. And it seems to me that lots of Akitas are named "Bear". They do look like bears in the face.

My buddy had a Great Pyrenees, and let me tell you that was the most evil animal I have ever known. He loved my buddy and his mom, but he even wasn't cool with the dad and his sister. Friends? shite. He would destroy you. Big sumbitch too. Name was Titan.

I love playing with them, but I pity the owner that has to clean them every day- they also have a lot of health issues. They are a lot of fun though.

Avoid the white ones.

If you can find one with a lit of brindle, they weren't overbred and have zero health issues.

GSD's are cool but damn they shed A LOT. I can't stand shedding, really. A girl I used to date had one. I guess it just felt worse because she let the dog get on the furniture and in the bed. Yuck. I can't stand dogs on the furniture. Small, indoor lap dogs that are groomed and clean? I don't care (except for the bed; bed is off limits to dogs for me). Outside dogs running inside and just jumping on the couch? I can't stand it.

There is this shoe store in Steamboat Springs and the owners used to have a Giant Alaskan Malamute that would lay in front of the checkout counter. First time I saw it I didn't think it was real. It weighed right at 200 lbs.

They are nicknamed the German Shedder for a reason. I can brush mine and still pick up tumbleweeds an hour later. The longhair (Czech Line) shed less because they are not double coated, but they are pricey.

I have a Coonhound. They are great dogs. Mine is a Black & Tan but obviously has some Bluetick in her genetic makeup. She is very loyal but Coonhounds tend to roam so they need to have a fence if you want them to stay close by. Their nose is one of the best. They make great companions and are very affectionate.

I've got a B&T and a Redbone. Both great and very loyal. They just need a lot of exercise.

Lawd almighty. If I move out that way, my first look will be into the Black Russian Terrier. They have been my dog crush for about 5 years now.

What dog breed isn't loyal to its owner? They're dogs - it's what they do. The responses on this thread are just what you'd expect - many popular breeds listed.

What other traits do you want in the dog? That will help you narrow it down.

our female bull mastiff is extremely loyal, and kind of naggy. she has to be touching you in some way, either laying or standing against your legs or sitting with her big bucket head sitting on your lap
