Class V rapids on the Gauley about a half hour away, maybe less. Get a whitewater kayak and you will love it there.

With your user name is it safe to assume you are going into Urology?
My wife is from that area. Those people are "off" a bit. Honestly they are unlike any other people I've ever met culturally. The one's that I've dealt with are nice, they are just different.
The poster that spoke about the people looking "sick" is spot on. My wife's mother is from Bluefield, West Virginia. The only way I can describe that place when asked was "Imagine if zombies had taken over Mayberry". The people there were just not healthy looking. They did look sick. Kind of hard to explain.

Its a great place to live
good night life and close to Pittsburgh 1 hour and DC 3.5 hours
i can ansder any questions you have
depends on what you are looking for. Close to the bars there is a ton of places near High Street. South Park is more tame and where a ton of people working for WVU live.

Cold as frick in winter.
When you house hunt, imagine your local roads with snow.
If that hilly driveway is daunting in summer, pass it by.
This poster addresses the issue I raised.

Wife interviewed there and said it was a nice, small town but pretty isolated. Probably a good place for residency given the lack of distractions and solid outdoor options when you get some time off.
its not isolated its with in a 3-4 hour drive of about 6 major cities
there is a ton to do and its one of the top party school so plenty of distractions

Even the classiest people there are still hillbillies.
Use to work for a company that had an office in Morgantown. They did things a little bit different than the rest of the world.

Live close to the Morgantown Personal Rapid Transit
the PRT is no more
it will be replaced
that and no one really uses it other than freshman who live in the towers complex going downtown for class or going out at night.

I always wondered how West Virginians evolved into what they are. I don't mean that as a slight to them. They are just vastly different than Virginians, North Carolinians, and so forth. Remoteness? Isolation? Homogenous citizens, that don't venture out of West Virginia?
Much like Louisiana being vastly different from Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Texas, etc..West Virginia is its own, unique thing.

I don't have much experience with West Virginia, but I think I know what you are talking about. I think it's an Appalachia thing. I've noticed the "sick looking" and "dimwitted looks" from rural, impoverished parts Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
