I assumed the majority would go to WVU (70%? in-state) with the remaining predominately from Pennsylvania and Ohio.

No its closer to 50/50, and will probably be even more out of state now bc standards have gone up even on in state students.

Most the students from out of state are from PA,VA,,MD,NJ,OH and NY.

The DC area is the largest area for alumni outside of WV, bc most of us just moved right back after our time at WVU. DC area is only 3-4 hours from Morgantown depending what side of the beltway you live on. My HS would often have as many kids go to WVU as it did VT or JMU.

I had a great 5 years there. If the OP wants legit answers i got him.

Class V rapids on the Gauley about a half hour away, maybe less.

First of about 6 big water trips my friends and I took around the country. It's still one of our favorites because the rafting was great and the country around there was stunning.

Downtown
South Park is where families and older college kids (seniors-graduate students) tend to live.

Uptown near the hospital
Suncrest is where you again will find families and older kids living.

Near Downtown Campus
Sunnyside all the way to Woodburn will be college kids in run down houses.

If your into the outdoors you have endless possibilities.

Lots of locals and college kids go to the "secret" spots known as Bluehole and Arden. Basically it involves getting drunk and swimming in a river.

Graduated 10 years ago so not sure what has changed.

Thats sounds pretty normal for any big university

WVU throws a huge bash the first day of class called fall fest at the student union.

That's every day, not a big event.

I agree that every university has big events either in the fall or spring.

Say you're a non-student, working a professional job and you have more money than you do time. You want to get away for a quick weekend trip. You have to drive 80 miles to the Pittsburgh airport to go anywhere, correct? To me, not being able to easily get away when you want to makes a place isolated.

Lived there for 3 years while my wife finished up residency at ol Ruby.

If you want to still live the college life, look downtown in South Park or Woodburn. We lived in Suncrest which is up the hill form the university and walking distance to hospital. It's a bit more grown up but still close to the action. North Hills is similar. We had some friends that lived around Cheat Lake. Let me know if you need specifics.

a quick weekend trip you could be in NYC in 5 hours

you dont have to fly anywhere

hell Deep Creek is 45 mins away. Great summer time lake fun and awesome sking/snowboarding in the winter

While its WV the town has a ton with in a short drive to do a quick getaway.

In the winter the live music moves just inside the union to the Rathskellar. The beer flows year round.

I was back during Labor day weekend for the first time in four years and could not believe how much the town has changed in a good way.

Even in 2014 when i was there it was already better looking from when 2010 when i was up there all the time before I joined the Air Force.

Live close to the Morgantown Personal Rapid Transit

The town is fun on gamedays but I can't imagine spending 5 min there on a normal day.

A lot of people will tell you that WV is trashy, and don’t get me wrong, there are definitely some parts that are (Boone County). It’s certainly no worse than Louisiana, though. Probably the most beautiful state I’ve visited.
