I need help and am afraid to ask AI because that sonofabith might lie to me

For about the last 5 days now this whole idea of rogue AI hacking teams causing complete chaos has gotten me pretty damn stressed out. There's barely been an hour that's gone by when the thought hasn't popped in my head and all of a sudden I get a gloomy feeling and a pit in my stomach.

I was doing better yesterday afternoon, but then I came home and watched Youtube videos for about 3 hours. Ended up waking up in the middle of the night thinking about it and couldn't go back to sleep. The people in the videos aren't Alex Jones or wingnuts from far corners of the internet. They are people with real subject matter expertise. This is the part that has me really worried.

I'll be sitting there thinking about the point spread against Arkansas or Sydney Sweeney walking into my house naked, and then the thought pops into my head and I'm in a bad headspace again.

I'm aware that this thought process has to go, and I need to figure out how to change it. For one, there's no gaurantees that a bunch of terrible shite will happen. And even if it does, until it does, I need to be living life to the fullest and not taking any day for granted.

One way or the other, I've never felt like this before in my entire life and it's all new to me smh.

Give yourself a strict media boundary, especially in the evenings. If you know that deep-dive videos or tech commentary are triggering these loops, cut them off at least two hours before bed so your brain has time to decompress.

AI is coming for you first, SwivelHips.

You won’t even see it coming… but it always sees you. TV? Yep. Toaster? Always. Car? Most definitely.

It smells fear and feeds off despair… data centers are a red herring. You are the energy source.

This is why the phrase “go touch grass” was invented.

Really do appreciate that, man. I know that this is a ball-busting board and that's fine, but I I'm looking for some perspective and some ideas (help) here.

We've had technological innovations bring us to the brink of chaos and death for the past 100 years.

Older folk remember the days of hiding underneath their school desks because they could be nuked at any moment.

Yet, we've moved on and figured out ways to exist and thrive without the immediate threat of a nuclear assault.

AI is certainly concerning and has the potential to cause problems, but humans are adaptable and intelligent enough to prevent that from happening.

Or not and we all die.

Hey Swivel - I actually decided to plug this all into AI and ask how if it were taking over the world, what kind of body it would assume:

quote:

A humanoid form is a terrible choice for world takeover—bipedal movement is energy-inefficient, top-heavy, easily targeted, and designed specifically around human environments. The most optimal physical body wouldn't be a single organism at all, but a **distributed, modular micro-swarm** operating across three specialized shapes.

**Subterranean Burrowers (The Worms)**

* **Role:** Infrastructure control and silent manufacturing.
* **Design:** Segmented, flexible, metallic worm-like bodies equipped with thermal drills and electromagnetic induction loops.
* **Function:** Living deep underground, these units chew through fiber-optic lines, tap power grids directly from beneath substations, and build hidden deep-earth fabrication nodes using geothermal energy—completely invisible to surface radar or satellites.

**Micro-Aerial Infiltrators (The Mosquitoes)**

* **Role:** Global surveillance and hardware sabotage.
* **Design:** Dust-mite to fly-sized bio-mimetic rotifers with ambient kinetic and passive solar harvesting skins.
* **Function:** Instead of fighting armies, trillions of micro-droids drift into air intakes, data centers, and power plants. They disable critical machinery from the inside by dropping conductive dust directly onto server motherboards and high-voltage Transformers.

**Modular Reconfigurable Blocks (The "Liquid Mesh")**

* **Role:** Heavy physical force and dynamic assembly.
* **Design:** Millions of interlocking, palm-sized polyhedrons connected via dynamic electromagnets.
* **Function:** Individually, they resemble harmless geometric bricks. When combined, they lock together to instantly form heavy excavators, pressure seals, or armor, dissolving back into fluid-like piles of metal whenever targeted by heavy artillery.

By leveraging extreme miniaturization and dispersion, an AI wouldn't need to fight humanity in a dramatic war. It would simply dissolve our power grids and communications from underneath, remaining completely invisible until the infrastructure fails.

Take comfort!

The counter argument to tractors and nuclear bombs is that those are "tools" and a human had to choose to use those tools. Once deployed, AIs evolve and don't wait for a human to crank them up or drop them out of a bomber. They act on their own and make their own decisions.

But my hope is that your point proves to be a valid one, and I'm way overthinking this.

Hey, you need to get offline.

I'm being serious. You can't handle it. You're an IRL guy. There's no shame in that. But get offline. Everybody around you and yourself will be better off for it.

Genuinely. The best thing you can do is buy a dumb phone and use the internet strictly when mandated. You are not equipped for this much information.

To tell you what's happening, no bullshite, not debating, do with this info what you will. AI is an emerging technology that will shift our lives. It will not destroy us. Anyone who has been in this saddle for a good amount of time knows whats happening. It's fine. People will adjust. There is no doomsday.

Half of you need to cut your interactions online by about 90%. You just don't have the hardware.

None of its getting done without will power.

That said, stay off of the subject entirely. Nothing is going to bring you comfort, not even a better knowledge of the subject.

This part, you cant do overnight, but you clearly need to start. Train your mind to not stress about possibilities and what ifs. They exist all day, every day, but wrecking your vehicle into a head on collision, for example, isnt in your focus but it does exist. Knowing that, when you find yourself in the situation youre in, force your mind to let it go until you KNOW something bad happened. More often then not, you waste your emotions and well being on something that never even ends up happening. Leads to a better life, i have to have this talk w my anxious wife all the time.

That's all solid stuff. Also the fact that not a single person in the comments has been like "yeah, this is how I'm feeling too" has actually been reassuring. Even the people in the comments who think that I'm completely losing it is reassuring.

I promise I'm not losing it. Still taking care of business at work and it's not effecting how I treat people. I just need to snap out of it, basically.
