How did you lose your job in this economy? Serious question. You must have seriously f’d up.

I hope you find something soon. At least you want to work.

I'm sorry to hear that you've lost your job. That's a very disruptive experience. Things will improve. You will work again. Hopefully, you will find a job that is more satisfying and more closely aligned with your long-term goals than your previous position. This will pass.

I hope OP doesn’t listen to the retards suggesting this is a good weekend to smoke. Why literally blow a great opportunity that could come up on Tuesday?

If you want to have a celebratory smoke, the least risky time is the afternoon of your first Thursday at the new job. But the best time is the day you retire, because that’s a stupid reason to lose your profession

You’ll find something better. Good luck.

Finding a job is tough, especially one you want and is tolerable. I moved to Atlanta and I thought I'd find a new job in a snap. It took over a month and then it took my new employers almost three weeks to finish all the prequalification stuff. Now I'm stuck working night shift in a job I'm not crazy about, until I find something I like better.

Best advice I can give you is look for short term gigs until you can find something steady. Temp jobs might help keep bringing some cash in, either through a service or delivery driving. You spend more money without a job. Best resource is always going to be community based (family, friends or church). Be prepared to swallow your pride..

Depending on your career/profession, you can leverage LinkedIn. In my profession, all I would have to do is make a status update that I am currently looking for a new company and I have X qualifications; recruiters would do the rest and reach out.

Hang in there. Don’t mope. Update resume. Reach out to recruiters (they get paid to get you a job) and business connections to job leads.

Lastly, stop looking at porn at work.

I lost my job after 18 years back in April. Took me a month to find a job and another month before I started my new one. So far me getting laid off was a blessing in disguise. I make more money and I'm out of the oilfield. I did a lot of fishing and helped the wife around house with all the chores. Dont beat yourself up over it, it's not the end and you will land on your feet.

As far as unemployment, that's a frickING JOKE. I was 40 when I was laid off, and worked a full time job since I was 17, the run around I got for 2-$218 checks was not worth the hassle. A person that holds down a full time job for 23 should have easier access to their benefits.

What’s your field?

I know plenty of recruiters throughout the country (and some overseas).

Be happy to help if I can.

File for unemployment immediately because there will be a lag before any payments are made.
Take a deep breath and pull together your resources such as resume and the type of employer such as private sector, government, etc.
It'll all work out because the job market is good.

This is a perfect example of how not taking pride in your job results. I’ve always gotten to work early, left a little late, dressed equal to or better than my superiors, and was always 100% sober. Those simple things provide security.

Also, never trying to be the ‘cool guy’ in the office to co-workers. It’s not freaking high school. So many people don’t get this. Work is not a place to ‘hang out’.

Get to the unemployment office today and file. The clock doesn’t start until you do and there will be a few weeks for a waiting period before it kicks in.

Get online and Google Image search for resumes of people who do what you do. Click on ones you like and construct your resume.

When your resume is good enough, sign up and post it on Monster, Indeed, Next and any other similar service.

Get on LinkedIn and become searchable as well. There is a lot to setting up a good profile and it will take many revisions until it’s really good. Grow your connections as fast as you can.

This won’t all be done in a day. More like a continuous effort as you get better on tweaking your resume and more knowledgeable about making a good LinkedIn.

If you are not getting any activity, your approach is off so hire a place to redo your resume, cover letter and LinkedIn. It may cost you $250-$500 for the service with a guarantee you’ll be contacted for an interview within 60 days of getting it out there and online.

First interviews are usually a phone screening or a video interview.

Or hire a service right away, if you have what you think is a good resume. It will take 1-3 weeks with revisions for them to get it done.

Good Luck

You are in my prayers. I have been there and I lost a great job because of my own bad decisions. God bless you and it isn't the end of the world. You will rebound.

You could also have floated out what kind of work you do (as several have already asked). You never know who might read it and be interested in hiring you. Good luck.
