I lost my dad today. I am beyond thankful for all of yall!

Tl;dr - my dad died today. I'm thankful for a place like this to take my mind off of such a difficult day. Love your close ones even during awful times. You won't regret it!!


Today has been the hardest day of my entire life. My dad died this morning. He was 93 and just 2 months shy of 94. He was battling Alzheimers for 9 years now but it only progressed to a bad state the past few years. All you folks out there who have dealt with Alzheimer's and other issues with family or friends, don't lose hope. My dad had an incredible sense of humor up until the end and I'm extremely grateful for that. Love your close ones and make memories with them. They may or may not remember but you sure as hell will. It has made me a better person.

My dad and mom had me in Honduras when he was 70 in 1993. The man was a stallion.

he was married 3 times and raised 12 kids total. (6 biological. 6 stepkids). He was a damn good man and I'm forever thankful.

He was a former merchant marine, teacher, and an accountant in the US (he did it the good ol hard working legal way) before he retired in the 80s went back home to Honduras and met my mom. They had my brother when he was 66 and me (his youngest) at 70. He moved our family to New Orleans when he was 75 so my brothers and I could get the best possible education.

In 3rd grade (8 years old) I used to pray and hope that he would make it to my HS graduation. Well I'll be damned because my daddy got to see me graduate from LSU in May 2015. Even if he didn't remember, you damn well better believe I'll always remember that moment and him being there. I love LSU directly as a result of my dad moving us here and prioritizing our educations.

Thank you all for entertaining me with great threads, shite posts, and everything else that I love about this place not only today but everyday that this awful disease lived inside of my dad. It's brought alot of relief at different times. It's like a big ol good disfunctional family in here. I do not regret signing up for this board in 10th grade. I'm thankful for you all.
