I was in highschool before/when cell phones became widespread. I remember being able to tell what part of town someone lived in by the first three digits of their home phone number.

I can recall being in law school around '97 or '98 and there was ONE chick who walked around school regularly on a cell phone and everyone else was like 'who the frick does she think she is?'
Yep pagers were for doctors and drug dealers and if you had a cell phone and weren't a doctor IN SCRUBS people thought you were a tool. Can even remember doctors being almost apologetic if, in plain clothes, they were seen talking on a phone. They would feel obligated to say "I am a doctor" almost with a shrug.

I disagree with this. There were only a few people on campus that had laptops because even a PoS was $2K then. I was actually jealous of people that had one.
I had one friend that had a personal computer with Internet during the Napster years. He made a few dollars off of us burning CDs. I probably shouldn't have said nerd, just wasn't as common for a high school or college kid to have their own personal computer. I remember some parents having one, including mine. I guess the term computer nerd was thrown around a lot more back then is why I say that.

Landlines and we made plans ahead of time.

I was in college from 95-99. Had a pager the first three years and bought my first cell phone in 98. Not all that hard to make plans through means others have already pointed out.

Yeah everyone had a landline and an answering machine. I remember having a piece of paper on the refrigerator with like 100 numbers written on it.

Yea and actually having to remember peoples numbers or use the phone book.
Also having to track over to the computer lab across campus if you needed to use the net for something.

That's another thing about cell phones too. Nobody really knows anyone's # anymore, outside of a select few.

I wasn't being informative, I was being sarcastic.

We'd meet in the Greek section of the quad to make plans for the night.

I was in college from 1969-1973. We used telephones, rotary and then push button.
I wonder how many of you have ever heard a busy signal. It could get frustrating as hell.

One of my favorite gifs.

It's strange to think you might tell a chick on like a Monday or Tuesday I'll pick you up Friday at 7, and then have no communication until you show up Friday.
I've intentionally done this before. Aside from maybe a text to make sure we're still good for the date/time between then and Friday. It's nice.

I think that's cool, stout.
I remember the days before cell phones. When I was in trial in the late 80s/early 90s my secretary just told people I would be unavailable until after hours or until trial was over.
Now, I come out of the courthouse and there are text messages/voice mails/emails. There is no hiding out anymore. It's not good to be available 24/7. I miss the days of being able to be unavailable. But, damn, it's pretty impressive to be able to carry around a device that can answer most questions I have or contact anyone I know.
