I knew I was an adult when I realized my dad was right about everything.

His favorite saying was 'Walk fast, drive slow, pay cash, or don't go'. It took me a while to figure it out and I'm still kicking myself for ever questioning the wisdom he tried to drop on me.

I realized I was when I made him admit he was wrong about something he presumed to know more about the me..
He said. You know what. You’re right and I was wrong. His admission that I was able to coherently explain a real problem and fix the problem was all it took. It was tough for him to realize I was my own man and something I’m working on as my oldest transitions to adulthood over the coming years.

Agree with both of you, two signs of maturity:
- Realizing that your parents were right about a lot
- Realizing that they were normal, fallible people who had vulnerabilities and probably felt like they were making it up as they went along (while you, as a kid, thought they had everything confidently buttoned up)
Of course I know for some of us, neither of those are true because your parents weren't right and you never thought they had it all together - which is unfortunate.

I realized it very early on. Dad was almost always right.
Only thing I did not agree with was “nothing good happens after midnight”. I knew that was patently untrue. He may have had ulterior motives in telling his little girl that though.

I miss my Dad. He was very wise.
When my son was 16 I was very smart. I overheard him say it. He was teachable and would even concede when he knew he was wrong.
I will concede quickly to logic and facts. He has a never been able to concede like a gentleman.
Some of his classmates have told me that once they grew up and got real jobs and families they realized why I pushed them hard and tried to teach them at every opportunity. They appreciate it now. My son dislikes being spoken to on a job.
Then when the testosterone hit him full blast I became stupid. Working or communicating in peace together became impossible. I can’t deal with deal with mind frickery.

My dad told me when I left for college. "Be Good. And if you cant be good...dont get caught"
