I just got guilt tripped

I just got the invoice for a new roof on my shed and I asked if they took credit card or if they needed a check or whatnot. The lady says, "we take credit card, but we get charged 5% by the company" in a sad woe is me tone. I was gonna pay w/ CC because of points, but now I kinda feel bad. What would the OT do?

Unless you get a 5% discount for a check/cash, pay with your credit card.

I put a car down payment on my credit card a few years ago for points. At first the salesman said they would charge a $150 fee to do that. I told him “if you want to sell this car tonight you will let me use my card and not charge me a dime for it”. He promptly waived the fee

Depending on the roofing company, ask if there's anything extra they'll throw in for paying cash instead

Ask for 2.5% discount to pay by check. If they reject pay with cc

She's exaggerating. AMEX who has the highest fees, afaik, ranges from 2.89-3.5%. Also, if she really wants to encourage cash business then she should give a discount some amount less than the fee she is charged. I say, frick her.
