It's kind of hard to predict what songs or bands will still be relevant far into the future but I'm sure rock songs like Mr. Brightside, Welcome To The Black Parade, American Idiot, In The End, Seven Nation Army, Uprising, and The Pretender will all be pretty well known for a long time

That's called "survivorship bias".

There was plenty of trash music being made 40, 50, 60+ years ago, we've just forgotten about it. You think music was better "back in the day" because you only remember the good songs. It'll be no different 40 years from now thinking back to today.
I am aware of Sturgeon's Law

Yes, most of the music 50 years ago was junk. But I listen to what's recommended as the best rap and I say that is crap.

What do you constitute as "staying power"

Easy...

Yesterday
Freebird
My Girl
Hey Jude
Satisfaction
Respect
Johnny B Goode
Blackbird
Sound of Silence
Hound Dog
Let It Be
Sitting on the dock of the bay
Georgia on my mind
Superstition

Should I go on???

Tell me one dogshit rap song that has anywhere near the staying power of those songs

Is Cardi B your new poet??
How about some mumble shite??
Wanna tell me about how some NFL fagboi is gonna change music forever??

Rap is pure dogshit... it has no redeeming qualities... it has no staying power... your grand kids aren't going to listen to it and see ANY kind of art... because there isnt any art.. it's a formula... and a pathetic one that seeks to entice the lowest common denominator in society

I think 90s grunge/alternative will eventually be highly regarded.

That's it?

So you were recommended one artist, decided it sucks and then projected that on the whole genre?

Pro tip: You cant.

I member my ol' Daddy back in the '70s sayin' the same thing about The Who, The Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin and most definitely that group from down under with their Highway to Hell trash. Buncha counter-culture dope smokin' hippie trash. Don't even get him started on the Ramones and Sex Pistols, ain't nobody gonna listen to that punk trash in the future. He was prescient too.

Me personally I like maybe 1 out 100 rap songs I have heard which admittedly is limited compared to most people half my age but anyone that doesn't see staying power in some of rap just doesn't "get" music and how it stands as a soundtrack for its contemprary generation of youth.

Also, lets not act like that Run DMC, Sugar Hill Gang and The Beastie Boys haven't already had staying power for the last 30+ years.

Somewhere deep in my vinyl collection I have an original 12" of Rappers Delight I bought in 1979.

I said a hip hop the hippie to the hippie the hip hip a hop and you don't stop a rock it to the bang bang boogie say up jump the boogie to the rhythm of the boogie the beat

You weren't a cool kid if you couldn't recite the full lyrics.

Are you the same guy who doesn't like any of Chappelle's skits?

As to rap, is it the music, lyrics, or just everything about it that you don't like? Even if you don't like his music, it's hard to deny the talent of someone like Eminem. You should at least be able to understand how others can like it. He uses words that you won't hear in any other song in any genre. The creativity in his wordplay is mindblowing. He layers rhymes in unexpected ways. And he's funny.

At the very least you have to appreciate the skill/talent.
