Yep, you're right, Low End Theory totally followed that lyrical template.

...like seriously, how can anyone listen to that record and say it's not music. Sure, maybe you don't like it, but you have to at least appreciate the composition.

It failed to mention any of the criteria I listed. Take your slam poetry to the book board

There is dogshit music today but there is also some incredible music being made. It's the same as it ever was, except it's now easier to find.

Who are the temptations of today??

I'm 34, and I honestly couldn't tell them you a single song or artist working today that has ANY staying power that Motown STILL has

Face it, you love waterdowned dogshit... 3 and 4 chord progressions with a simple back beat that keep the masses dull minds occupied with shitty lyrics and bland compositions

It's all the rage

I was never a huge fan of the rap genre but if you don’t like at least 5 rap songs then you probably have a shitty personality and aren’t very fun to hang out with. There’s good stuff in every genre.

I judge people who like rap
It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor, or if you’re black or white. If you are a rap person, you’re the not worthy of society.

Rap, and the culcha that follows is the antithesis of decent society.

Oh get the stick out of your arse. And get your head out of there, too.

There is shite rap just like there is shite in every other genre, but there is good, too. I can't imagine the type of a-hole you must be to dismiss anyone who likes any of it as "not worthy".

And there is rap style vocals and lyrics in many genres.

What do you constitute as "staying power"?

Taylor Swift will still be getting radio play from her current catalogue 10-20 years later.

Yup. There isn’t much difference in folk story songs and some story raps. It’s all how it’s sung.

ETA: now I’m not defending all the poo poo stank booty auto tuned garbage out there that is devoid of soul...but I’m not so arrogant as to dismiss a genre that gave us such classics as the Humpty Dance and Gangster’s Paradise

People who are selling now will be listened to in 20 years by their original audience as nostalgia. That's the cycle.

Will they be listened to in 55+ years like The Temptations?

I think 90’s and early 2000’s rap will have “staying power”. I may be old but current rap is trash and the whole genre peaked when they took over for the 99 and the two thousands too.

I don't think there will, but not because everyone in the time since has been worse than The Temptations or The Beatles, but because the industry is so over-saturated right now because it is so easy to create and distribute music and so many are doing it, for better or for worse.

Here's the problem with music in general

Name one song that was produced in the past 5-10 years that our grandchildren will listen to and consider a classic staple of our time

Name one song, that in 40 years from now, people will know all the words to and will be considered a classic piece of art

Pro tip: You cant.

All new music is watered down garbage... pure dogshit... nothing but rewritten garbage handed to no talent assclowns to preform.

Pro tip: That's called "survivorship bias".

There was plenty of trash music being made 40, 50, 60+ years ago, we've just forgotten about it. You think music was better "back in the day" because you only remember the good songs. It'll be no different 40 years from now thinking back to today.
