Midwest is more of a cultural name than geographical at this point.

That's what I thought as well until I saw someone in another thread trying to make the argument that South Carolina wasn't considered a "Deep South" state. Some people have a weird way of just writing off decades and even centuries of tradition as if they don't mean anything.
Michigan is definitely Midwestern. In fact, it's arguably the original Midwestern state....much like South Carolina is the original Deep South state.
