Prayers for your dogs. Lost my first dog to a snake bite. She was a big dog but the snake got her right on the snout and hit the artery that leads to the brain. She fought for a week but ultimately passed. Hoping yours pull through.

Good luck man. I'm guessing rattlesnake? Dogs can usually get over cottonmouth bites with some benadryl.

What may cost thousands or even tens of thousands a vial here costs tens of dollars overseas....same antivenom, same manufacturer.

Just like most drugs.

I can't remember which two guys, but I saw a video of two venomous snake keepers comparing their bite stories. One got bit by a king cobra in Florida. The other got bit by another species of cobra (a wild snake) in India. I want to say the guy who got treated here paid something like 50-60k or more for several vials while the guy who got treated in India paid like twenty bucks a vial, maybe less. Both survived. The one guy came back to the states after being saved by the antivenom and continued his care here. He didn't give ringing endorsements for our hospital's ability to treat foreign, particularly elapid snake bites. That kind of makes sense, though, because we don't have those snakes here.

Yeah, I can kinda see Cobra anti venom being pricey here just for the rarity of it's use.

I mean if I got bit by one might as well buy the casket as they aren't going to have that juice at the local hospital.

US hospitals not being equipped to treat King Cobra bites of all things actually makes total sense. Like, how many hospitals in this country do we having stocking up on...*King Cobra* anti venom just in case?

Surprised that the guy in FL bitten by a Cobra was even able to be properly treated here with the correct Cobra anti venom in time.

Also, what TF makes someone want to handle exotic highly venomous snakes? NUTS

No shite. $7k for three shots of snake juice?

frick that guy.

I think you need to google how expensive antivenin can be. Even ignoring the ICU care for two, 5 vials for 7k isn’t bad at all.

It’s Florida, they probably have things most states never heard of because of the stuff those hospitals have seen.

Cats are natural killers. It’s actually impressive how a common house cat has that instinct and can flip a switch to murder pretty much whatever it wants. Birds, snakes, squirrels and lizards.

I had a pair of murderous Jack Russells. They cornered a copperhead and with incredible teamwork the male grabbed that snake and shook it until the head of the snake came off. I had no idea those dogs could do that.

Those emergency/ 24 hour vets are absolute predators. I've been to the one in Mandeville many times over the years unfortunately. The first question they ask is "what's your budget for this"? Then the scare-tactic upsells like "we could do the standard test which is fine, but if it was my pet I'd do the super duper test and really try to save his life". Then you wait, then they come with the next recommended upsell.

Disgusting
