I used to enjoy them as a kid. Especially bottle rocket battles with other neighborhood kids. I still like to see a good show...Nashville has a great one, btw.

But now I just look at firework stands as bastions of trashiness and their patrons as feckless jackasses who should probably be putting that money toward food, diapers, or HPV vaccinations.

I dread the day when my kids are old enough to ask me to buy them some...this may be my last fw-free 4th for a while.

Am I just getting cranky in my old age?

When your kids want them, you will want them. Your problem is dealing with trash at the stands. Amazon, Google is your friend. Nothing but spinners and democrats at our location, in broadlight. Scary indeed.

I'm not a fan. New Years is worse though.

I like them except when asshats wait till after 10pm to start and cause the dogs to wake the baby.

Law here is 9am to 9pm except the night of the 4th

I hate them because home-shot fireworks are just sh!ttee noisemakers.

Trashy whites and all Mexicans live to make a lot of noise, and this is just another excuse for them to do so.

I don't know, but I can tell you this: you're one of a very small group of TD posters who can both spell "curmudgeon" and use it properly in a sentence.

They didn't bother me until it started becoming an all-night, 3 night thing in the hoods for every holiday. You keep thinking it's over, but nope.

Exactly my problem. I live in a neighborhood with plenty of kids, you would think these people would have some consideration. Last new year's they were popping them off until about 1:30. What the frick is the point of celebrating New Years anyway? Wow you now have to write a different year when you sign your name.

Yes, this is what happens when you get old. You become cranky, yell at kids on your lawn, and fondly remember the good old days when people actually went out to meet people instead of spending all day forwarding clickbait from your AOL account.

The only thing missing is that your post wasn't in all caps.

When artillery shells started going off at 11pm last week, the first day fireworks stands were open, I really started hating them.

My last neighborhood in Nashville (Crieve Hall) was not too far as a crow flies from the main Hispanic corridor in town. I could vaguely hear fireworks from 2-weeks prior to 2 weeks after any fw-related holiday. I hated Christmas Eve fireworks the most.

The private shows are as good or better than the public show here. Love to hear the boom echo around the mountains. I can deal with a few nights of loud noise a year. If it were happening all year round, I'd probably get tired of it.
