Ian Carrol fills in for Candace as she is on maternity leave. The fist 20 minutes of the show he describes how truckers are basically modern day slaves. It’s an easy listen.

It’ is a surprising revelation to me:

I saw an independent trucker who is going bankrupt because of his cost of operation, mainly insurance. We’ve had those few incidents that semis have caused or created huge pileups with fatalities. That’s all our lovely insurance companies need to arse rape those guys.

Did this guy really go from making TikTok videos to Rogan to now filling in for Candace? Pretty impressive if so.

I have known several truckers over the years and they made great money and they loved it.. that was 10-15 years ago when I was in the type of business that used LTL a lot - I am sure the industry has changed for the worse though

That’s bs! Truckers choose their profession, choose to drive local or over the road. They choose if they want to be home every night or every other month. The issue is that majority of them don’t know how to level up in the logistics industry. They basically act like the 10 year company worker who is making not much more than when they started. That’s their own ignorance.

The American working class has been cuffed up and hosed down, pimped up and ho’d down by our “representatives” for far too long. We need term limits, earlier retirement ages and heavy restrictions trading/investing to keep them in check. No more career politicians. No more going from a net worth of $100K to being a multi millionaire on a $175K yearly salary in just a few short years. No more picking the winners and losers by giving out exclusive non compete contracts to their buddies who’ll give them a nice kickback. Leftists today will argue these are all products of capitalism, and that socialism/communism is the fix. This is untrue. What we see today is a system riddled with blatant corruption, that’s gone unchecked for too long, which will lead to the demise of any economic system. But we’re too divided over bullshite to ever unite against the common enemy and take back what is rightfully ours.

There are country songs about the hardships. That didn't come out of left field.

It would be a lot cooler if people would post a summary of video content or run the YouTube transcript through ChatGPT/Grok and post that summary.

Do OPs just assume everyone is sitting around with 20 minutes to spare and in an environment where watching a YouTube video is convenient?

Edit: took less than a minute (prompt: can you summarize this video in 300 words)

quote:

In this episode of Candace Owens’ show, guest host Ian Carroll exposes modern forms of indentured servitude in America, focusing on the trucking and franchising industries. Drawing from The Secret Life of Groceries, Carroll details the exploitative conditions faced by truckers like Lynn Riyles, a veteran driver who, despite earning $200,000 annually, nets only $17,000 after deductions for truck leasing, fuel, maintenance, and mandatory fees. The industry traps vulnerable individuals—often recruited from homeless shelters or prisons—with debt-laden contracts, promising high pay but delivering poverty and relentless work under dangerous conditions. Turnover rates exceed 100%, fueled by predatory practices that profit off cheap student drivers paid as little as 12 cents per mile. Carroll also discusses the prison-industrial complex, noting how the 13th Amendment allows slavery as punishment for crimes. He critiques Joe Biden’s 1986 Anti-Drug Abuse Act for disproportionately harsh penalties on crack cocaine, contributing to mass incarceration of Black Americans who work in prison labor camps reminiscent of plantations. In the franchising sector, private equity firms exploit aspiring entrepreneurs with deceptive contracts, as seen with Burgerim and Unleash Brands. Franchisees, lured by promises of turnkey businesses, face fraudulent cost estimates and hidden fees, often losing life savings and retirement funds through SBA loans backed by taxpayers. These firms use tactics like the “Texas two-step” to shield assets, leaving victims bankrupt. Carroll concludes that these industries reflect a system where the ultra-wealthy exploit the vulnerable, using debt and legal manipulation to maintain control. He urges compassion for truckers and awareness of these systemic issues, emphasizing how money and law trap people in modern servitude. Word count: 269

Insurance costs continue to rise. Rates have not post the Covid surge.

More and more billboards popping up on roadways “Hurt in a big truck wreck?”

Plenty of instances where a driver in a passenger car is at fault, cited, arrested for DUI, etc, yet the trucking company can still be sued and found liable for payment. A lot of times companies will pay just to try and squash the lawsuit compared to fighting it, because fighting it costs more.

Not saying truck drivers/companies aren’t at fault for a lot of serious accidents, but nearly every accident has a pretty large cost associated with it.

Totally...remember how they put slaves in million dollar engines of steel and wires with oil for blood to tear down the highways at 70mph?

And then the slaves got to stop at a big restaurant/store with the other slaves and spend money on food and showers and entertainment and lot lizards and games and sleep in an air conditioned cab?

I can remember that old slave spiritual "the biker crank done run out, lordy."

Or "I think that hooker's got a horn."

Trucking can be a great living but home life is the trade off.

Guys invest into ownership so they can set their own loads and schedules. Then they get lazy or they want to be home all the time and their revenue falls off. Then they moan that shippers don’t want to pay them enough to make their bottom line.

Trucking is a grind. But the guys that hustle can do well.

He’s specifically speaking about owner operators on a lease to purchase program with their truck. And some companies do have a reputation for being a bit predatory with how they run these programs.

Outside of that, long haul trucking is basically only lucrative for the driver these days. Drivers make good money and the trucking companies are doing terrible.

They are a stones throw away from all being replaced by automation.

Like a dying horse, they will get beaten until the end.
