I think it had more to do with piss poor management at the store level.

There is not a labor shortage, there is a businesses wanting to pay below the market wage gluttony. The price of labor, just like everything else, has gone up. Businesses some how accept rising costs of goods but refuse to accept the rising cost of labor.

Government paying people to stay home is why the "cost of labor" has gone up.

Add the increased costs of product, and increase wages to outspend the government, and suddenly your business is too expensive for your customers.

It's a big part of why places like grocery stores and restaurants are having major staffing problems.

What percentage of the workforce do you think this impacts?

Sure, that has aggravated the situation, but the fact remains, businesses paying a market wage are nearly fully staffed. Businesses offering $10/hr with no benefits are not. I think the market wage for a quality employee has skyrocketed past $15/hr. $10 doesn't get you a warm body.

Can you tell me if it is worth your time to spend 8 hours at a jobsite for $80 BEFORE taxes? That is if that $10/hr job gives 8 hour shifts, it is probably a 4-6 hour shift during a peak time.

The biggest issue is the value of the dollar has decreased, and yes the government caused the problem, but we all know the government doesn't pay for the problems it causes, the people do, and in this case it is going to be business owners and their customers.

For pantry items and even most produce, Whole Foods delivery has been clutch. I buy meat at Costco and still make runs to the store for an odd item here and there, but for my weekly staples getting them delivered to my home while I work has been a good service.

A ten dollar an hour job is not a career.

The only labor shortage I see is you not shopping for your own groceries.

None of your story indicates a labor shortage at your local whole foods

The part where there was no one to bring me my order and it just sat at Whole Foods (allegedly)

They said they didn't have your items not there wasn't anyone to bring it to you.

Wouldn't you rather people have "real jobs" anyway and not have time to run your errands?

Stop being lazy and go to the grocery store. Personally, I don't want some stranger picking out my produce and meat. Canned and boxed good I can see, but fresh products I want to pick out myself.
