I feel like Britain's 50 year war against the slave trade is under-taught part of history

The world's largest and strongest empire actively patrolled an entire continent with hundreds of ships and thousands of men to ensure slaves did not flow to the arab sands or the americas. Britain did not gain any financial benefit from this, it was purely of the heart.
I know the empire didn't do great things, but you can't tell me the Africa squadron isn't one of the more noble things undertaken in history.
Modern estimates are that britain intercepted 5k+ ships and freed 1 million+ africans from bondage through these patrols.
Between 1830 and 1865, almost 1,600 sailors died during duty with the Squadron.

quote:
We have no slaves at home.—Then why abroad?
And they themselves, once ferried o’er the wave
That parts us, are emancipate and loosed.
Slaves cannot breathe in England; if their lungs
Receive our air, that moment they are free;
They touch our country, and their shackles fall.
That ’s noble, and bespeaks a nation proud
And jealous of the blessing. Spread it then,
And let it circulate through every vein
Of all your empire; that, where Britain’s power
Is felt, mankind may feel her mercy too.

Don’t lick the British boot. Those frickers weren’t doing it out of morality

Slavery was a mistake. If those damn farmers would have hired cheap labor instead our country would have been a lot better.

Permit me to doubt.

True statement.

Country would have been better off of Ellis Island never existed.

The Barbary slave trade has entered the chat

The prevailing right wing philosophy is that you can’t teach the history unless it aligns with their preconceived and uneducated fantasies about how the information makes them feel.
Since a discussion about attacks on the slave trade requires acknowledgment of the trade, it’s difficult to predict how this makes them feel. You would just have to ask Jeff Landry or Ron Desantis to make a decision about whether you can learn about this topic.

The real truth is both sides do this. Both sides want their agenda to be the one.
That's why to save our country we NEED 3-4 political parties not two.

I think we need a separation of politics and classroom discussion.

Good for them trying to tear down an institution that they created and forced upon conquered lands.

You say this like it is a huge gotcha.
But two key things:
1) it is grossly generalization.
2) change a very few key words and it applies to the left about science, gender, and identity.
My point, everyone does this to a degree. It’s not a gotcha that you think it is.

You think Great Britain created the institution of African slavery?

Intellectually lazy partisan take and a bad troll. 2/10

They’ll never get credit because it doesn’t serve the people that get paid on keeping the narrative alive that whites are systematically racist. It’s also not being taught that blacks were selling blacks into slavery.
The resent movie the Women King tries to portray a strong black women in Africa. But what they gladly omitted was the two main tribes in the film were responsible for rounding up thousands of slaves and selling them to the Arab slavers.
You gotta love the revisionist history they continue to try to crank out in Hollywood.
