The earlier thread about a speaker at Tulane getting canceled caught my attention, so I emailed the admissions department. Their response is
I redacted the name of the admissions intern to protect the ignorant.

So a concerned parent who might have a kid going to their stupidly overpriced school writes them with concerns and they don't address a single one of those concerns, but instead attach this:

"Tulane is fully committed to fostering an environment that is equitable, inclusive, and just."

How arrogant are these people, and how dumb are these interns? And why would any self-respecting parent pay for this nonsense? If you want your kid to grow as an individual and not be thought-policed by the so called anti-racists then you might want to send them elsewhere.

Why email Admissions to have your hissy? I doubt they had any input in what is scheduled or cancelled.

Why not e-mail the President or Board?

Because their admissions department is telling people who are concerned about censorship on campus to "go cry about it." Seems like something an admissions department might want to address.

I hope parents don't really do this for their kids. I would have been so embarrassed.

I know I did all my college investigations and evaluations on my own. Parents did buy me the books to review though.

I have to admit, when I saw the title I expected it to be an email you sent just expressing your disapproval and was getting ready to respond with "that'll show em" or some smart arse remark like that, but this is actually pretty good.

"As a result, we’ve made the decision to postpone this event so we can reevaluate the best way to discuss the book…"

This is the more complex way to say "we have no plans to reschedule this".

It is pretty sad that we are now coddling college students to protect them from potentially being offended.

frick Tulane. They just cancelled a book that was fundamentally leftist in outlook out of concern for the Maoists (If Karl Marx was in charge of Tulane he probably would have let the event occur) and their "ethnic nationalists".

Prepare yourself for the barrage of dismissive ridicule and snark from The OT Moral Idiot's Brigade. These are not people who understand WHY it is absolutely critical for a University to encourage diversity of opinion, critical thinking, tolerance of unpopular speech etc. They have no idea what those things even are. These are people who just make derisive comments to the people who do actually understand the importance of those things, high five each other, declare victory and wait for the next topic where they repeat it all over again. Like a special education class-They don't know what they don't know and if you try to tell them it makes them angry.

I was reading the comments from the link in the original thread about this and came across this one.

quote:

I imagine that is true. I saw somewhere where the woman who wrote “White Fragility” objects to saying Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in baseball. According to her, the correct way to phrase it is that Jackie Robinson was the first black player allowed to play in the major leagues. Saying it that way totally deprives Robinson of his humanity and moral agency. It says that everything he did was not the result of his ability and character but the result of whites allowing him to do it.

How is that not racist? It just blows my mind what these people are saying.

I saw the hollywood types on IG posting about the book "White Fragility" and how "everyone must read this book".

If there is ever such a thing is white privilege, its a white telling people how other white people should address things when it comes to black people.

"Woke" white people are the problem. They do over the top shite (try too hard) and it actually takes away from what is being protested or what message black people are trying to send.

I honestly think that these "woke" whites are responsible for some of these protest getting out of hand. To some of them its about being accepted so they have to show that they are passionate and they go over the top.

This is another reply.

quote:

And when you think about it, that is straight up racism. Rather than confront and discuss America’s past, they seek to just erase it. That is just white washing with a really stupid rationalization.
