re: I don't know how regular folk get by with multiple kids. The cost is absurd.

Doesn’t get much cheaper as they get older. Theres still phones, cars, insurance, health care…..and my middle is autistic and doesn’t work and is convinced her cat needs $1000 worth of tests to figure out why she’s so fat.

My 9 year old is autistic and my wife is a cat hoarder. The only vet visits I pay for is spay/neuter. I've got injectable antibiotics from the farm store that I use on pets. I've become a pretty good surgeon working on pets to save money lol

Yeah, outside of no daycare they are still expensive. It's probably costing us about $700/mo for one teenaged driver.

How you going to pay for their lifetime ,membership of living in your basement.

I figure just schooling alone for my 2 (K-12) totals close to $250k. Another $50k for housing for college. Food, clothing, extracurriculars, insurance, cars, fuel another $200k minimum.
So, half million easy.

God bless you and your family, I know you are raising great kids who will grow up to be smart, resourceful and hardworking.
Once you get past all of the snarky remarks in the weekly youth sports/travel ball threads this gets at the root of the problem. Not every family can afford to pay thousands of dollars and travel every weekend for youth sports, hence why local leagues and quality school teams are so fricking important.

All 3 play sports. Luckily the oldest two are gifted and work hard enough they aren't charged for sports beyond my oldest boys football league fees.

More power to you. I hate to see animals or kids hurting.

I’ve got a 20, 17 and 14 year old.
Wait until you get into car insurance and college.
However, I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

This exactly!!! My situation is almost the same but with 4 boys. 5 to 18 yrs old. All are very active, including sports, but it is only for fun. No travel ball. 13,15,and 18 yr old Earn anywhere from $300-$700 a week playing music and working part time.. I make decent money but probably not what a lot make but our family focus is on spending time together whether that’s at work, hunting, etc….. not saying at times that the financial situation does not get tight, but it can definitely be done. My wife has 2 degrees but chooses to stay home ,cut hair on the side and teach our children.

Thank God, I don’t have or plan to have any kids.

Per child looks like. 36k for daycare. I would look into one of them staying home if they're a 2 earner household

Dude these numbers people are posting is BS. If you have to budget for kids you'll never have any. Once you have them, you'll find a way to make it work. I raised 2 kids on 2000 a month for a few years. No welfare or food stamps. That was with diapers and formula and all bills.
My kids don't get vacation every year but we have a great summer. I don't buy them expensive clothes. They aren't in travel ball shite. They try to make the team at school and if they don't make it, so what? They enjoy life. They will work for their vehicles and everything. I'll help them out in college but it won't be a free ride. They'll earn everything they want.

The upper middle class lifestyle ain't attainable anymore unless mom and dad are both making close to six figures, that's a fact.

This was how I grew up.
A lot of the "expenses" in this thread seem to be coming from men who can't tell their wife or kids no. That or they're obsessed with keeping up with the Jones' themselves.

Either they're lying or they have money to throw away. I don't care what they do but this notion that kids are expensive is a lie. Nobody in the history of the world set a budget to have kids.

I pay that for one kid in daycare.
300 per week for 1 child.
I had 3 in daycare at one point.

My parents raised us un gently used shite for sports and hand me dowls along with discount clothes when my mom got a Kohls 30% couponin the mail. They never saw the point in getting expensive clothes that will be grown out of .
Also helps we went to Catholic School from K-12 so we never had to worry about new school clothes.

Another “let’s self-extinguish” thread. Western civilization is doomed. Decent people need to have more kids.

LOL
It’s not really a kids are expensive argument, it’s just that lots of shite is expensive.
I’ve read through this whole thread and it seems for people like you, the damn car insurance I pay for my son alone would break your budget. And we even went as cheap as possible by handing down and old cheap vehicle.
