Somebody in Texas told me once, "If people in Louisiana stopped spending all their time planning for the next party, whether it be a crawfish boil, a tailgate party, a festival, or a Mardi Gras event, and spent all that time focused on holding themselves, their schools and their politicians accountable to improving their state, Louisiana might be worth investing in, once again."

There's probably some truth in there. Of course, that does not take into account that Louisiana is constantly just trying to patch things up from the yearly storms and the party atmosphere is needed just to forget, if only for a little while, all the problems.

God damn, this is true

I enjoyed Mardi Gras in my early to mid 20s, but if I never go to Mardi Gras again in my life I will be perfectly fine with that.

The parades were never of interest, so I was basically there to drink and party. I’m too old for that shite now.

I rather enjoyed the parade in Covington last night. As for NOLA...

A tale as old as time.

Maybe when the kids got too old to enjoy catching beads.

Your kids aren't that lame. If that was the only thing, everyone would do it. You became responsible and immediately tired of all the other shite you need to do to make Mardi Gras happen. It became more things that aren't fun than are. I don't blame you.

We took the kids to parades when they were young but I agree. There is nothing appealing about it to me at 44.

I'm 29 and couldn't care less about Mardi Gras anymore.

It's basically because I've done it a million times already, I like vacationing/going out of town during it, and the amount of crime/carjackings/shootings/etc. which made me completely fricking over it.

I am gonna be in New Orleans for it, and I'm probably not going to any parades except for maybe 1-2 in Metairie.

No one used to love Mardi Gras more than me, but it sucks now. frick New Orleans.

I can remember the first time I attended a Mardi Gras parade. It was in Houma, and I'm thinking "why are people screaming and shouting and begging for plastic beads ? "
I'm not a beggar.

Standing right next to a family from Country Day. Beautiful.

Id also like to note it conquered that neutral ground area in a way Columbus would be proud of.

What a fricking moron

Wouldn’t be at Mardi Gras or have blue hair if it wasn’t for Columbus

We could have several sweat shirts with names of NOLA murderers on them

Idiots
