Netflix has over 325 million paid subscribers worldwide. [1]

AI Overview

Netflix makes roughly $3.9 billion to $4.1 billion per month directly from subscription fees.

That's a lot of freaking money.

What's interesting is Netflix has lost almost half its value in the last year. Stock is down over 40% the last 12 months.

Yeah, simple multiplication is pretty hard.

325 million retards who are stupid enough to pay subscriptions for a bunch of mass-produced, cookie-cutter slop shows and movies with mediocre writing and mediocre acting.

Outside of Tires, Trailer Park Boys, and Breaking Bad there's nothing worth a shite on Netflix.

Just because they are now so big there’s no real room for growth subscriber wise.

So now it’s price increases for all subscribers, new ad tiers to get extra ad revenue from those subscribers, or adding even even cheaper tiers to grow the subscriber base but not shrink their current subscription base who might drop down to “grow”.

The “growth” now is retention and preventing churn, they either need to invest in constant great new content, they are trying gaming, etc. which is hard and expensive. Their wading into politics didn’t help and was dumb on this preventing churn, point.

Netflix is getting shredded by Youtube

quote:

"YouTube has been rapidly expanding its living room footprint, having captured a record 14.2% share of US TV time (+80bps year over year) this July," HSBC analyst Mohammed Khallouf wrote. "This momentum is increasingly coming at the direct expense of Netflix as its share fell to a multi-year low of 7.8% (-100bps year over year). YouTube has been benefiting, in our view, from a declining reception to NFLX's original content.

Near-term recovery in engagement looks unlikely."

quote:

Second quarter earnings for Netflix did nothing to alleviate rising Wall Street concerns. Sales missed estimates, third quarter guidance was cautious, and hours viewed on the platform only rose 2% in the first half of the year.

Somehow, we think Netflix adding more podcast shows on the platform won't fix its ills — at least this year.

We turned off our Netflix subscription a few months ago when we both realized we couldn’t remember the last time we’d found anything on there to watch.

Now we have:

Amazon Prime with Paramount +
HBO (or whatever they’re calling their app this week)
Hulu Live/Disney+/ESPN Unlimited bundle

Most of the time though, if it’s just me watching, I’m watching nerdy YouTube history videos

Stocks go up in value based on the possibility for growth

Netflix cant grow much more, can only raise prices

Have to branch out into something else to grow

Could have bought Netflix on the cheap in the early days. One of the historically monumental business fumbles of all time.

And it's not enough. The cost of getting new content to keep subscribers isn't sustainable. Their only hope is getting approved in China. Otherwise they will go bankrupt.
