When I lived in Saint Paul, I would go to the Minneapolis airport and watch planes takeoff and land. There was a road just on the other side of the fence and there were parking lots that were rather elevated above the surrounding terrain and you could sit there for hours watching the 747’s takeoff and land. This was around 1981.
I was in school and would post up there and do my reading.

All planes land it's no big deal. Its just some landings are better then others.

Japanese kids would go to the end of the runway at NAS Atsugi to watch F-18s land. Sometimes inside the security fence, which the Jarheads loved.

they used to, maybe still do, have bleachers at the end of runway 5L in Mexico City for people to sit and watch takeoffs and landings, usually a pretty good crowd, probably all hard of hearing though
