I wear hearing aids and was born with a 25% hearing loss and I’m 47. Loud music guns etc. has made it worse. I have to ask the OT a question maybe ya fools can figure this out for me.. why when I fall asleep without my hearing aids I hear every little sound around me? My wife actually says it’s crazy about the things I hear in my sleep. Does anyone have a reasonable explanation for this?
For example
My wife usually falls asleep after me. She plays the ocean sounds on her phone and sleeps better. Well I can’t hear the music with my hearing aids and after I fall asleep I wake later in the night because I hear the music without my hearing aids. That’s what puzzles me.

Do you normally have ringing in your ears that causes you not to hear well?

Yes that’s common with hearing loss the hearing aids drown the sound out of the ringing

Any underlying conditions?

Maybe the ringing goes away when you lay down to sleep?

Are you hearing low pitched or high pitched
sounds? I’ve had this issue in the past.
