I have a 2016 Colorado with 300k and a 2024 Colorado with 8k miles.

Besides from the radio I prefer the 2016 with the V6. It drives better with 300k miles than the new one with less than 10k

Wouldn't be surprised if insurance tries to total it out from the hail damage, book value is probably only $7k or so.

I don't know. My 01 tundra V8 costs the most to insure out of our 3 vehicles and it's based on replacement cost.

Next time look into classic car insurance for something that old unless you just want liability. It's sometimes cheaper premiums and you get to put your own value on the vehicle.

I bought a 2002 z71 four years ago with over 300k for two grand. I still drive it every day. I’m wondering what a complete redo would cost compared to buying a new truck (eventually). Any ballpark ideas? I’m talking rebuilding or replacing engine/trans and suspension. Not worried about paint and such.

Very nice. How’d you find it? FB Marketplace, Craigslist?

I’ve been looking for a single cab Z71 89-98. They’re proud of the ones that are in decent shape.

Where’d you find it?

Marketplace in Florida.

What's your price range?

Yeah, I have Hagerty for my old car and was considering it for the truck but just insured it normally as I was still working on it.

A brand new factory engine and transmission would probably be under $10k. Suspension could probably be completely overhauled for 2 or 3 thou.

I think you can probably get a pretty clean one for 15-20k.

I looked all throughout the South on Marketplace once or twice a day, you have to jump on them quick.

Did you have to put up a deposit before seeing it in person?

Dang. Guess you have to be ready to jump on it and go the next day.

Just depends on the deal/location. If you live in the South and find a Southern truck, you usually have a little more leeway. A clean one in the Midwest goes fast.

This one has been sitting for a few but only because it's a 6 cylinder.

Nice. What were your strategies for searching, if any? Just cast the net far s as bd wide?

I just get on Marketplace and search the areas I'm interested in, 250 miles at a time. Usually use "k1500" and "z71."

There are also some groups where people will list them, they're usually asking top dollar in those groups though.

If someone wanted to spend the time to stab a 5.3 in it, that would be a good truck to do it with. Has the late, nicer interior.

*I say this as someone that lives in an area where finding one of those trucks rust free is next to impossible.

Now that I have seen guys body swapping onto 1999-2006 Tahoe/Burb chassis, I'm kind of looking for a 1973 or so Suburban to set on an LS chassis. The wheelbase is within a half inch...

A late 50s Chevy pickup fits well on a Tahoe chassis but the cabs are too small for my taste.
