So he said I can post a poll here, and I am literally stunned that I don't think he has a basic comprehension of English.
So he's arguing with me that the phrase "Does a bear shite in the woods" is not a metaphor but is a rhetorical question. My retort is yes it is a rhetorical question but also a metaphor. As well as a rhetorical metaphor, metaphorical rhetoric, and a metaphorical, rhetorical question.
So the definition for metaphor:
And rhetorical:
So settle the argument.

So the definition for metaphor:
quote:
a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.
And rhetorical:

(of a question) asked in order to produce an effect or to make a statement rather than to elicit information.
So settle the argument.

Can we get a poll on this? I think anyone who passed the 8th grade would say I'm right on this. The fact that I'm having this argument about two totally unrelated terms is ridiculous. I guarantee you every single English teacher in the country would say I'm correct.

You're really giving DawgFaninCA a run for his money as dumbest poster on this board. It's awe inspiring how stupid you are. I'm stunned you have even gotten this far.

It's a metaphor for a rhetorical question, you fricking moron. Jesus Christ, you're an idiot.

Figure of speech or not, bears do, in fact, shite in the woods.

Next poll can be:
If a drunk driving bear shits in the woods, is it literally same as shooting a gun down a city street?

I agree it's rhetorical, but how does that not make it a metaphor as well. The two terms are completely unrelated.

I was hung over and pissed off the other day, I feel like greatlakestiger and I have beef over my resentment of the big ten and their states.
I went to the Chicago airport once. It wasn't an unpleasant experience. Offering amends.
