The vast majority of "North Baton Rouge" is within the city limits and can't incorporate into their own city.

I was a 96 Central grad and knew a lot Woodlawn kids. Me and mikee have a few mutual friends. I thought he was younger than that for some reason.

The local NAACP has already talked of breaking the City-Parish Consolidation.

This definitely needs to happen.

I would be pissed if my kid were at BRHS and then suddenly they have to start going to F'ing Woodlawn.

IF the St. George ISD is created and IF your kid was accepted for BRMHS, you can exercise one of the freedoms of living in the USA and MOVE to be within the EBR Public School district. Problem solved.

Any thoughts to what would happen to private schools in St George?

Would people ditch to go to the new neighborhood schools?

Could the neighborhood schools handle the amount of private school kids?

Are you sure? It would be good for the parish but potentially devastating for the city. You could end up with Gary Chambers for a mayor and a city council filled with Chauna Banks clones. Talk about accelerating white flight to St. George or the neighboring parishes.

The NAACP wants it because it would pretty much put blacks firmly in control of the city government. I agree that the city-parish consolidated form of government is stupid, but if you split them up, Baton Rouge will become Jackson, MS in less than 5 years.

That’s pretty much what has already happened.

BR is around 40% white in the city limits. People sometimes confuse the city limits with NBR. Tara, Bocage, Southdowns etc are all in the city limits.

I agree with you here. It is easy to look at someone and say that they have not achieved because they are lazy or have not cared to. The problem is, a human life is a complicated thing. I know people that have brought themselves up from nothing and those that have squandered every opportunity. We all know that this lies outside the norm.

So should we build up our own little fiefdoms of privilege leaving the impoverished at the gates? I get that you look at your current government and see a group of ignorant race pimps. I do not disagree here, the inmates are running the asylum. I do agree with OP, though, that long term people will get hurt by St George. You may be better off, but you are creating an artificial division to cut off the disadvantaged from the prosperity you have enjoyed.

The artificial division already exists. These areas have been excluded from the city, but are now being told they can’t form their own city.

I get it bro. Hell, if I lived in St George I would vote for it. Just trying to point out what OP is feeling and maybe go for a downvote PR while I am at it. There is another side to all of this.

The op is either an idiot or completely misinformed about the situation, and his feelings on the matter are a result of the false narrative created by that misunderstanding. They’re not feelings that have any basis in reality. Thus, the exercise of trying to “see things from his point of view” or “empathize with the OP’s feelings” is nothing but an exercise in exploring alternative history. If you want to relate to people who experienced trials and tribulations that never happened, I recommend watching “Man in the Hightower”.

The “other side” on the St. George issue is always a false narrative emotional appeal because there is no set of facts under which their position is logically supportable with even an inkling of intellectual honesty or moral consistency.

While St. George incorporation may hurt the BR City Government in the short term, if successful, it likely will improve the city’s finances longterm by slowing or even reversing the outmigration of tax payers currently fleeing the parish at all costs.

For those bringing up Zachary as an example for St. George, it is not really comparable.

Zachary was incorporated before. It had its own Mayor, council, police, fire, etc...

It did form an Independent School District. Spent millions on infrastructure and schools excelled. But for how long?

There is a secret in the community that those that don’t live there don’t know.

Many families have pulled their children out of the school system due to poor discipline and changing demographics. The recent graduation ceremony was an absolute embarrassment. Basic decorum and decency was absent.

10 years from now, Zachary will be much more like Baker than many can imagine.

It will take longer for St. George, but, if they are successful with building a good public school system, it will attract everyone. The system will face the same issues that Zachary faces.

Zachary sold itself out all for the desire to win in athletics. Slaughter will be a 3A school within 4 years.
