Yes they could have. They had several bad floods over the last few years in the area. They new what those storms were like, and new that this storm was going to dwarf them. They knew almost a week before that they we were going to get 20-30 inches. Maybe if our flag was a blue and yellow stripe, we would have be aided better.

Relative of mine on Bearwallow Mountain. Isolated but safe. Prayers for all involved. Their work places were washed away.
They have a generator with limited gasoline, creek for water and portable water filtration devises and a campfire going for cooking.

Great. Use the only fresh water source near you as your personal shitter.
You know you can get water from the creek and pour it in the tank to flush the toilet, right?

Have you asserted yourself as warlord of the island county and resorted to cannibalism on the weak yet?

Watching my in laws deal with this has been fascinating. It’s nothing but piss poor decisions and zero forethought as to how they’re going to sustain themselves over the next few weeks. It’s been completely mind boggling.

Any word on Bethel/Cruso? It’s south of Canton, north of Brevard, on the north side of the BRP. Right on the east fork of the Pigeon River. That area got devastated by Fred in 21.

Just how bad is Asheville?
Wife has family there and she talked to them yesterday. They said it’s like some apocalyptic movie shite.

RRRight. I can already see the effort here on TD to make this a failure of Gov. Cooper and the Biden admin.
The culting here in the PB is sobering, but not completely surpised.
When is Trump gonna come and start tossing paper towels? lol.

You think it’s impossible for the state and local governments to be ill prepared for a disaster?

Nope, but let's be real. This entire forum wants to blame the Democrats for this.

Seems like a lot of people are dealing with apocalyptic type situations, and being isolated or cut off from the rest of the world isn’t helping.
A fictional account of life in Western Carolina after an EMP attack is playing out in real life due to a Hurricane and flooding.

How do you prepare for 28” of rain in the mountains?
Mandatory evac?

He delivered tons of assistance in a coordinated response.
The Democrats in Puerto Rico punished their own people in order to make him look bad.
The left is vile.
That being said, nobody could have prepared for this.
The response, however, is another story.

It’s the only thing they know how to do. Completely skip the part where he did something good and latch on to one moment of playful fun and use it to make him look like satan.
Just like the infamous fish food incident that they tried to use to make him look like a buffoon.

The people in charge of Asheville and the majority of the surrounding areas focus on one thing, and that is tourism. It is all about money for the last 40 years in that area. Any funding going out is for tourists not locals. They are more concerned building parking decks and destroying the land for hotels along with those that come into the area and build on the side of the mountain a multimillion-dollar home for tax revenue but ignore the issues with erosion.
The same thing happened in 2004 when the area suffered from 3 named storms within 3 weeks. Destroying industrial places like on the river or locally owned businesses in town. Instead of helping them recover they focused on the chain stores to move in and tourist attractions in the same areas because again they were worried about money not the people that live in these areas.
But unless you are from the area you probably cannot grasp that. But history is just repeating itself and once again instead of being better prepared for what is happening it will happen again.
