Yeah not having a copy of your birth certificate makes you off the grid.

Lord.

You don’t get it from the courthouse. I think in EBR you go to the vital records section on the first floor of health building. It’s under 110 on Florida I believe. Lock your car doors.

Sure you did. Go back to Mexico.

You can go to any participating clerk of court of the parishes listed on the state website. I was born in Orleans and recently got a new one in Bossier. 15 minutes and $27 if I remember correctly for a certified copy.

For same day you have to go to one of the authorized places. Nearest one is in like Baker or Zachary. North of BR somewhere.

*my wife did this for our honeymoon three years ago. (maybe you can do it in BR now, you couldn’t then. BR sent her north)

Clerk of Court in the Governmental Building basement. All you need is a drivers license to get a certified copy of your birth certificate and they will do it while you wait. I don’t remember the cost maybe $20 or so. I got one a month ago and it took 30 minutes because one person was at lunch and three people were in front of me. They have a few chairs to sit in while you wait.

Birth certificates are on the first floor in Vital Records, not in the basement. The rest is spot on.

Marriage certs, mortgage records, passport photos, and a host of other things are in the basement, though.

Eta: Tons of terrible info on this thread. Walked my SO into there a little over a month ago. In and out in less than 15 minutes, certified birth certificate in hand.

Mine was lost when I was a kid. I had to get an official replacement when I applied for a passport. Unlike most government dealings in Louisiana, it was an exceptionally easy sub 1 hour process. Ouachita parish FWIW.

We then proceeded to take the elevator down to the basement and got our license. From the moment she parked in B1 to the moment I walked her back to her car, it maybe took 45 minutes. Probably closer to 30.

Pro tip: fill that thing out and submit it online. When you go in, they will review it and print it out for you. Don’t be one of the saps poking at the computers they have set up.

Don't do that man. Just tell her that you lost it and there is a 5 year turn around

I tore my new passport instead of the old one.

Have to do it all over.
Ugh.

How long does it take to obtain one from the east Baton Rouge court house? Is it a same day type thing?

I got mine within about 35-40 minutes at the Clerk of Courts office in Clinton a couple of years ago. Since then they began issuing them here also at the Clerk of Court office downtown and on Coursey.

Cheapest way is to order it by mail from the Bureaus of Vital Statistics and wait a couple of weeks. $15. Order instructions

If in a hurry, participating Clerks of Court will issue them on the spot, but it costs more.

EBR Clerk of Court does participate. $34

I'm just curious from an outsider's perspective. Is this information not in a database where they just print out the birth certificate when you make the request?

That is how it works where I am.
