My rescue mutt has a little bit of pit in her, but I am not worried. She is lean like a lab or pointer, not stocky and block headed. Plus she has been raised right, she lets our chihuahua lick the food from between her teeth. It's so gross.

One of mine is a 9 month old lab, pit, shepard mix. He is very protective, but a very sweet pup. It’s all about how you raise it. Socialize him early. Take him to the dog park so that he gets used to being around people and train him properly.

Well first of all its a puppy so I give them the benefit of the doubt and you do not know what the bread is yet. I think the fact that it is a mix is good and I just don't trust a vet to pick a bread on sight.

If you raise it correctly, it’s no more dangerous to your family than any other large breed dog.
Statistics do not bear this line of thinking out IF it is a pitt bull. The primary danger, if the dog bonds with the OPs kids, is not his family but his kids friends.

In all seriousness, don't let the OT make decisions for you.

Get it trained early. Take it to training courses early. Don't let it go untrained. Keep it on a leash any time it is outside of your house or back yard. Treat it well, but be very safe and careful. Think of owning a pit a little like keeping a loaded gun. They are very, very territorial and protective of their pack. I would not recommend you allow friends and neighbors to bring their dogs over without concerted effort to meet at a neutral site a few times first. If you follow rules like these, pit and pit mixes can be very amazing dogs for you and your family. But you have to be very careful and aware.
This sounds like “Happy Fun Ball” from SNL. Happy Fun Dog.

Yeah my brothers dog is similar. Seemingly some pit in her but mostly something else like catahoula. She is long and skinny and not built like a pit just can see it a little in the face/ears.

I'm fond of a good rye/pumpernickel, myself.

You could just raise it to be a fighting dog.
Sprinkle gun powder on his Iams.

You're gonna be playing dominoes in your front yard before long

This.
We picked one up, abandoned on our road after the ‘16 floods. She’s the sweetest one we have and socialized immediately with our other pets.
