You completely missed the point, as evidenced by your first line referring back to another statistic that fails to disconfirm that pit bulls are just more dangerous when they attack.

From your statement, which addressed chihuahuas referencing their size, I posted a statistic that indicates another large dog that is has statistics that of fatal attacks that roughly match the overall population of that dog. But it is true that pits attack in a way that is more dangerous than most dogs, a lot of that is due to breeding for specific aggression/attack characteristics.

And yeah, like I said, I understand the concern of taking in an already developed animal with no knowledge of their last experience.

My concerns go deeper, to genetics.

We'll probably always disagree on this but I appreciate a rational conversation that does not devolve into name calling.

Again, educate yourselves. This is bad information.

Absurd.

You have no fricking clue what you're talking about. APBT's were bred to be dog aggressive, while maintaining a strong love for humans and a desire to please. The reason being, fighting dogs had a tendency to change hands fairly often and were also around many strangers every time they were matched. Not to mention the need for both handers to be able to reach in and grab the combatants at any time during the fight without threat of being bitten. They needed to be extremely pleasant toward people and were in fact regularly culled for showing any amount of human aggression.

What is your source for this? Also, whoever was doing this breeding seemingly failed, since pit bulls are among the top biters of humans, not just the top fatal biters.

I read information from various sources trying to find relatively unbiased info (difficult on either side of this). I tend to fall back to statistics and reports of attacks.

How do you know the pits you’re referring to were raised properly? You don’t. A

Which just reinforces to argument to not adopt grown pit mixes.

And dogs are been bred to live with humans for millennia.

Not all breeds have existed for millenia. Breeds are developed all the time to have certain traits. Why were pits created? The breed was created for fighting.

Given the overwhelmimg evidence that pits account for the majority of attacks relative to other breeds, why would any rational person want to take a chance?

Yeah, the facts are that pits attack more than any other breed by a large margin.

I have a female pit mix and she is the sweetest dog on the planet.

Raise them right and they won't bite. Plain and simple.

She's 10 years old and we have 3 kids aged 13 to 10 so she's been around kids of all ages throughout her life.

Stop being snowflakes and just enjoy what you described as a really good dog. Don't listen to the ignorance on here. If you raise that dog correctly he will be a good dog.

Possibly, list them. I've read plenty of article, no books though, about the breed and some of the origins.

Maybe you should start with the genetic testing.

This. If it turns out the kids arent really yours, then you wont be as worried about the pit bull eating them

Sell it to China. Market it as grade “A” , which stands for American. There could be a huge market for that.

If it has some pit in him I wouldn't worry. The vet said probably, but mix breed (as in the type you don't know what the hell it is) dogs are the best dogs you can get..

But those frickers are those shelters must give appealing descriptions of the animals. This was about 15-20 years ago, but my aunt and uncle's lab passed away and they wanted to get a new dog, but wanted something a little bit smaller. They decided to adopt so when my uncle went there, they showed him some puppies they just got.. He told them their lab had just died and they wanted something a little smaller.. A medium sized dog.. And they told him the puppies were likely border collie mix, likely to be a little smaller than a border collie.. He decides to adopt one.. 3 months later that fricking dog was huge. Bigger than his lab.. Taller, weighed more..

So yeah, those bastards probably don't like to tell people if a dog is a pit mix..
