This is true, they really upped the pucker factor for this stretch of roadway.
Did you ever drive I-10 to Houston when they were doing all that work? Driving through those chutes in the rain left sucking marks on my seat.

Tip of the thread. I don't give a shite if the trip takes you ten hours. This will make it worthwhile.

Take 210. Traffic is terrible everywhere. There isn’t much getting around it. People say use waze, but we all know the ways to get around traffic and those routes get just as backed up because of it. Just get to where you’re going by about 4 and stay there until 6:30. Otherwise you’re going to be spending that two and a half hour span sitting in traffic.

Take 210.
Get there before around 4-4:30pm. As others have said, 4ish-6:30 is a nightmare due to all the hippos leaving the plants.
Obey Waze.
It will likely still be a little slow, but at least you'll be moving.
Give Heaven On Earth Barbecue a try while you're there

We made it about 30 minutes ago. Traffic on the loop got down to about 20 mph in a few places but nothing unbearable. We probably just got through before it picks up.

get on 190, go thru DeQuincy to Deweyville then hit I-10 at Vidor, then west to Houston. Misses all I-10 traffic

If only Baton Rouge had hired the Lake Charles studiers 40-50 years ago.

Or take the Cameron Parish ferry and then go Port Arthur to Winnie and hop back on I-10, if you really want the scenic route (to Houston, not Sulphur).
