I remember a thread a while back talking about traffic being terrible due to some type of road construction. I'm going to be going from Hammond to Sulphur tomorrow and was just wondering if I would run into traffic problems. For you guys that go through that way on a regular basis, would I be running into any traffic problems? If so, how do you get around and are there times of the day to avoid heavy traffic?

Good luck at the softball championships.

Have snacks in the car and be prepared for slowdowns.

Not updated often enough and do not take into account construction. So, not much of a friend. OP needs the app to show traffic flow.

I 10 west bound is at a stand still right now. It changes day to day. To be safe take 210 but sometimes that gets backed up too. Use waze and it should give you the best route

So it's better to take 210 all the way around? I'm pretty flexible on time but I didn't want to be literally sitting on the interstate in the middle of the day either. Team hotel is about a mile west past the 210. I'm staying in Sulphur so I want to give our coaches a heads up also if it's really bad. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Yes, you should be fine unless you hit it at 4:00-6. Other than that you should be fine

Is it just regular heavy traffic, construction, or both?

West bound is down to one lane right when you go underneath the 210 loop. Once the plants let out traffic starts to get heavy and therefore causing backups. So to answer your question constriction till 4 then heavy traffic.

Construction west bound on 10 and 210. Traffic on 210 stops at ryan st from 6-8 erry morning. Throw in a accident or swimming pool falling off a trailer and it can take hours to get across.

Good Luck

They are now working on the I-10 bridge going west. May be best for you to take the 210 loop when you get into town.

Hammond to MRB: Not a lot of alteratives.

If MRB is backed up horribly, you can (with some difficulty) take the old bridge.

Keep your eye on Waze. If there is a wreck before Grosse Tete, you an bail out on the Rosedale Road at Lobdell. If there is a wreck on on the Atchafalaya Speedway, you can bail out at Lobdell or Grosse Tete to 190. But be careful here. 190 is one lane around Livonia and Krotz Springs. If the wreck on the spillway is more than about a half an hour old, 190 will be a dead standstill. It one took me about 2 hours from Livonia to Krotz Springs in this scenario.

If you make it across the spillway alive, you will hit construction in Henderson. I have not seen that backed up lately, but it is slow and mildly hairy.

Once you make Lafayette, keep checking Waze. Sometimes I-10 has wrecks between there and Lake Charles that shut it down. You can almost always bail out to 90 if that happens.

I agree that you should take 210 loop regardless.

Good luck.

This is true, they really upped the pucker factor for this stretch of roadway.
