Also, why is traffic allowed to continue on the Westbound side if the bridge is under emergency repairs?
because structurally the bridge was deemed safe, its the whole expansion joints sticking up and missing when it slid more than design and caused the issue on the east side
im assuming btw.
and yea wreck on 2-10 is really fricking things up
and slow, yes they back you down. I had this happen couple weeks ago when those cars on 2-10 caught fire and caused others to catch fire. they slowly turned us around, 1 at a time and had use exit the first ramp. Its a long long process

LADOT
45 day repair project:
45 day repair project:
quote:
The contractor is required to maintain one lane of through and local traffic at all times, and shall conduct operations to cause the least possible interference with traffic. Lane closures will be only between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. During one phase (approximately 45 days), there will be 24-hour-a-day closure of one lane in each direction.

I’m not sure that’s the project

That is an old repair project.

What is sad is, this bridge is going to have a catastrophic failure one day and lives will be lost. The state needs to stop kicking the can down the road and replace it!

I-10 E bridge closed until further notice for emergency repairs
By Patrick Deaville
Published: Jun. 11, 2024 at 9:55 AM CDT|Updated: 2 hours ago
WESTLAKE, La. (KPLC) - I-10 Eastbound is currently closed for emergency repairs, according to DOTD.
Authorities say the closure will remain in place until the repairs can take place.
It is not known at this time what is being repaired on the bridge or how long it will be until the bridge will be reopened.
Traffic is being diverted onto I-210 Eastbound, which is causing some traffic congestion that is currently extending back to Highway 108. The traffic that was backed up along I-10 between the I-210 exit and the closure is being diverted onto the I-10 service road and onto Sapson Street or I-10 Westbound.
In general, motorists should expect higher-than-average traffic and some delays along I-210 Eastbound until repairs can be made on the I-10 bridge. Anyone using this route, especially to reconnect to I-10 east of Lake Charles, may need to plan accordingly for longer travel time.
If traffic delays persist and you do not wish to take I-210 east, you can enter Lake Charles by taking Sampson Street going north, and traveling through Moss Bluff using Sam Houston Jones Pkwy. You can then take Highway 171 south into Lake Charles.

Finger joint repair. Emergency repair not a project
Posted on 6/11/24 at 11:47 am to lsu777
That is not the correct repair project. It is definitely the expansion plate because it has been making new/interesting sounds the last few days I've driven over it. The plate is just East of the peak of the bridge.

Don't worry, La politicians have bee tackling the big problems facing the state (hemp, cash at stadiums, etc)

That bridge is one of the, if not the, most inspected bridges in the US.
It went through a major overhaul prior to the 210 bridge work a few years ago
This is apparently the issue.

An issue for sure, but not some catastrophic issue that would lead to worries of collapse. And look how fast they dealt with the problem

You really are a contrarian arse. There is mass amounts of rust on that bridge, clearly missing rivets. Imagine what we can't actually see that's missing. Twisted and turned sections of the bridge from either impacts or other damage.
And if you think state inspections mean it's safe, you truly are stupid. Because surely, they wouldn't just put band aids on it to kick the can down the road.

yea all the people talking about collapse are fear mongering and have zero clue wtf they are talking about
and no way that repair takes 45 days. not close, they will have that doen in less that 24 hours

Dude the feds inspect this bridge ALL THE TIME.
They do work on this bridge all the time. They literally just did a major project to ensure it's stability/strength a few years ago. Any major issues would have been found then.

Didn't you read the article on 95.7 that it's the most dangerous bridge in the US?
...
...
because of its incline, lack of shoulder, etc.
