It’s been about 6 months since I priced New Orleans real estate but when I did you were looking at a minimum of $260/sq ft for the cheapest “desirable” areas and over $350 for the more expensive areas of Uptown.

Not 100% of New Orleanians have 3 kids. But a lot of people don’t send their kids to private school either. You’re missing a lot of variables in that statement to make it accurate.

According to the OT literally 95% of New Orleanians have money problems because less than 5% make that.

Check your reading comprehension. No one said that. They said that with three kids they could not have the standard of life they personally want on an income of $200k.

No shite. Did I really read that correctly that Metairie Park Day is $18k a year?

They either:

A. Don’t actually live in New Orleans
B. Have fewer than 3 kids
C. Send their kids to charter schools
D. Make more than 200k

You sure did. That’s par for the course for the good non-diocesan schools.

Because that isn’t what the question was

The question was: Will you take the job in

It didn't specify that you had to live in the city limits in which you took the job.

Yes, my wife said that the kids there look like they dress themselves before school too

I thought it was more in line with Newman....$23k year. Trinity, McGehee and ASH are up there around the same prices as well.

I think we can infer that’s what the OP meant. The original sentence is “you are offered 200k and 3 cities”.

If we’re including suburbs this is a completely different question and begs to question why Lafayette and Lake Charles were left out.

And yet for 4 pages I was a fricking moron for saying $200k a year wasn’t enough for a family of 5 in New Orleans.

It's absurd to think a family can't live on 200k. That would put them in the 98th percentile nationally. Now, you may not be able to live the lifestyle YOU want to, but if anything is not accurate its your logic.

If anything we should infer that he means the metro area. Does New Orleans mean Mandeville, of course not, but not included Metairie or Kenner is just as dumb as thinking 200k is not a lot of money.

Now granted there is a lot of financial aid, scholarships and grandparents and great grand parents paying these kids tutions

There’s also people that have been given expensive family homes that have been paid for for years and are able to take out mortgages to afford tutions.

I’ve broken it down. I would prioritize my children’s education as the most important factor, and in New Orleans the public schools are not good. And that’s putting it nicely.

So to put 3 kids through private school AND to buy a house in New Orleans that can fit a family of 5, no. It’s not absurd to say $200k isn’t enough to live comfortably in New Orleans.

Take the job in Shreveport. Live in North Bossier. Bossier Parish voted best place to raise a family in LA.

You’re missing the point. It’s possible, but he’d have to make lifestyle choices and sacrifices that he wouldn’t want.

Sure, you can buy some shitty house in a dangerous neighborhood and send your kids to public school and save tons of money while making 200k a year in New Orleans, but do you really want to do that?
