Probably Alexandria. Small enough city that you can live in the suburbs like Woodworth and still have a very easy commute around the city.

You can buy a 350k house more than comfortably with that and still have plenty left over to save

Where are you buying a 4 bedroom house for 350k in New Orleans? And before you say Metairie

ETA: You’d have to pay me more than 200k a year to have 3 kids, but under the circumstances I suppose I’d pick Baton Rouge.

Rapides parish (alex.) Has some of the highest sales tax in the nation 10.5%. You're not gonna live high on the hog in Alex. For 200 grand a year. Are you gonna starve, no, but your not gonna live extravagantly either. Just saying!!!

Maybe I'm entering something into Zillow wrong when I just searched, but I got 0 results.

According to the people that live in Jefferson Parish and St Tammany they live in New Orleans.

So my answer is New Orleans.

It doesn’t exist, and if it did you wouldn’t want to raise 3 kids in the neighborhood that it did exist in. You’re probably looking at a minimum of 450k for a 4 bedroom in a desirable area.

If the question was 200k and 1 kid, I’d choose New Orleans, but 3 kids means a bigger house and 3x tuition. I’d probably choose Baton Rouge, but none of the 4 are ideal in this scenario.

That's all I've been trying to say.

That was my point earlier, everyone saying 350k for a 4 bedroom must be considering Jefferson parish and St Tammany as “New Orleans”. If that’s the case, then Lafayette should be an option too.

Why are those counties not considered New Orleans? They’re part of the metropolitan area, right?

No one is New Orleans should have any money problems at all making 200k, even with Catholic/private school. In the OP’s scenario, only one of the kids would be in high school so the school prices are much lower for K-7th grade.

You could live like a demi-god in Rapides Parish. Send your 3 kids to Pineville or ASH and invest the tuition savings. Some of the nicer neighborhoods have houses going around $145/sqft. That will leave you plenty left over to max out that Spirits rewards card.

Because that isn’t what the question was. Jefferson and St.Tammany aren’t New Orleans, just like Livingston and Ascension aren’t Baton Rouge.

According to this, the average private elementary school tuition is just over $8k. So not much cheaper than Jesuit.

Metairie Park Country Day is $18k supposedly. But I’m just going off this website I have no personal experience pricing elementary schools.

I was not aware that it was that expensive. My sister (no pics) just bought a newly renovated 3100 sq ft. house 20 minutes outside of downtown Dallas (in Dallas county) in a very desirable neighborhood for like 350k. I just assumed you could get something at least comparable in New Orleans. If that really is the case that would completely exclude NOLA from my list. Those prices are ridiculous for a city under sea level with that amount of problems (crime, corruption, etc). That isn't a knock on New Orleans just strictly a financial decision.

Exactly. Of those 4 cities in a vacuum, I’d live in New Orleans. But $200k a year with 3 kids rules New Orleans out.

According to the OT literally 95% of New Orleanians have money problems because less than 5% make that.
