So let’s just assume 2 boys and 1 girl, that’s $36,200 a year if they all are in high school at the same time. Down to $170k. The cost of a house to comfortably fit 5 in a good neighborhood and cost of feeding/clothing said family, along with two cars (eventually 5) and the occasional vacation? No, I don’t think $200k is enough.

Your take home would be around $150k if your wife didn’t work. You’re down to $114 after tuition. All-in monthly cost on a decent 4 bed/3 bath house in Orleans will be around $3500 on the low side. So we are down to $6500 a month for groceries, water, vehicles, insurance, saving for retirement, saving for college, and the fact that 3 kids are fricking expensive. And you might want to vacation at least once a year.

I love New Orleans, but raising 3 kids on 200k here would be below the quality of life I want.

Out of those BR is probably gonna give you the best quality of life and bang for your buck as long as you stay in Good areas.

Close enough to other stuff that it isn’t too far a trip

This is literally all I’m saying.

If I talk bad about New Orleans, the sunshine pumpers get upset. If I say New Orleans is too expensive (which in my opinion implies it’s nicer than the other options) they get upset.

I can’t win.

Definitely not Alexandria unless you like boredom

If you're a working dog with a family you learn to appreciate boredom. Besides, get Junior on a travel ball team and you'll have all the excitement you can handle.

You can't win because you're saying $200k a year can't allow for a decent life in NOLA. That's retarded. Many families do just fine on less.

Ok, well you brought up public school and I explained my logic. I’m sorry I didn’t write an entire thesis answering the OPs question for you initially.

If New Orleans had quality public schools, $200k would be better. But they don’t, so it’s not.

People are really picking Alexandria?

I would choose alexandria. Unless you are really attached to big city entertainment, alexandria would be the obvious choice. You would do very well there on that salary and it is a nice place to raise a family.

I’m not falling into the trap of arguing with LNCHBOX in a NOLA thread. This isn’t 2016.

WTF? I didn't post in here until after you and several people posted about private school. I was clarifying your previous statements. This response is totally nonsensical.

Fwiw, you become the biggest frickstick in the evening. Do you get hammered and shite post every night?

I don't care. Your opinion is ridiculous. But this is the OT, so it's expected.

You can buy a 350k house more than comfortably with that and still have plenty left over to save

You looked at what 4 bedroom properties in New Orleans selling for $350k look like? Not the kind of places you want to raise a family. Sure, you could move to JP, but a) the question didn’t list that as an option and b) even in JP you’re going to be past Bonnabel/I-10.

Everyone here are just idiots. I live in Maryland. In an area that blows anywhere in Louisiana away as far as cost of living. If you can’t live in LA on 200k you are an idiot. Total idiot. Am I making myself clear?

My bad I must have misunderstood your post.

But to answer your question, only thrice weekly. This evening isn’t one of those.

I don’t read his posts that way. I read them as his saying that $200k in New Orleans with 3 kids would be a lower standard of living than he wants for himself and his family.
