Hypothetical tree cutting accident

Hypothetically - if I hire a guy to cut a tree in my yard and in the process, the tree falls and hits my neighbors house, and the tree guy has no insurance, is it on him or on me?
This hasn’t happened yet…..but the chances are good.

If he doesn’t have insurance he likely doesn’t have any money to pay for damages either
You are responsible.
You are responsible.

Don’t use uninsured is the correct answer. I’d say that the tree cutter is ultimately responsible but your hands will be dirty and brought into the suit.

Its you.
Even if he fakes it. Its still on you for not "checking"

On you. Have tree company provide you a copy of the insurance and call to verify. I forget what the form is called (similar to Dec page for your personal homeowners and auto), but they should be able to provide a copy pretty quick. I’d also check with your insurance to make sure you’re covered if you have an uninsured contractor working on your property.

Don't hire the "tree cutter" without insurance if this possibility is even a slight concern.
Next hypothetical......

So how bad is the neighbor's house fricked up?

The tree cutter’s name is Friday, right?

Don’t hire anyone to cut a tree that can fall on someone else’s property that doesn’t have insurance. You are freaking nuts if do.

Worse than that would be one of his hired hands having an accident and getting killed on your property. If he doesn’t have workers comp, you would pay millions.

Read this out loud to yourself 10 times and then take an educated guess on the question you asked.

Who ever has the deepest pockets will pay up, doubt that will be the uninsured dude with the chainsaw.

This can't be true. If it were, no contractor would ever pay workers compensation.

There was a really good one on America's Funniest Videos not too long ago. It was a huge tree that was a glancing blow on a house. It took half(ish) of the second floor of the house off, like knocked it off. It really was crazy to see.
