Just finished the book One Second After. The plot is an EMP is detonated over mainland US. Entire country instantly without all electronics. We are talking ALL electronics. Phones, modern cars, clocks, every single thing with a circuit board. Infrastructure will be down for months maybe years.

Let’s say you live in the average American suburb 10-20 minutes from a major city.

What are your first moves?

Where do you go? Head for the city or the country?

What items do go for first?

Side note: this could also happen because of a solar flare similar to The Carrington Event which some believe happens every couple hundred years

IRL go to my in-laws house in Colorado. 220 acres, wooded, on the side of a mountain. Not off the grid but plenty of wildlife and fresh water to sustain until things get back to normal.

So...you will be one of the first ones to die. The people who have stuff will die first. The guy that doesn’t have anything but knows how to do stuff will probably be the best off.

I’d go find wherever Joe Rogan was hiding out at and survive off of his hunting abilities and DMT.

Interesting thought. But I disagree

I’m really not a prepper. But most preppers “know how to do stuff”

How long of a walk is that gonna be for you?

Something people need to consider in such scenario is you’re not at home when your car, phn, etc shut off. There won’t even be communication to let you know what has happened.

You’ll be on foot or bicycle if you have one. You’ll need supplies to get you to your destination. If you’re at work and you normal commute is 30 miles, how long do you think it’ll take you to get home? Get your children from school, etc.

Pretty impossible to have a 100% fool proof plan

Why? Some people will for sure but there are many people that can hunt, fish and scavenge. Plenty of rural land in this country for this too. I'd get as far away from a city as possible.

Gas doesn’t matter

It must be pre 1980s, maybe 70s. No electronics. No fuel injection. Carburetor only.

During Hurricane Katrina, the first night the power was off, people were already breaking into homes and looting. And that was in Ponchatoula. The police force was over whelmed and they ended up barricading the entrances from the interstate to keep the people from pouring in. It took a few days to clear the city streets and longer in the surrounding communities. This happened suddenly in what is not a big city. Big cities will be trashed in 48 hrs. All super markets will be emptied. And most all other businesses. People with guns will eat and those without will give up things that I don't want to talk about. Use your imagination. I 2 months, mass starvation and disease. Our society has become weak because of our technology. The key board warriors will cry and disappear.

My building would still be heated (natural gas) so on that point I'm good.

The biggest problem would be suddenly there's no porn.
