The HVAC system in my house is 22 years old. The original Lennox system when it was built. It has been going out and requiring repairs lately and rather than spending $300-400 at a time I would like to replace it.

I've gotten multiple quotes and Goodman comes in about 15-20% lower than Lennox or Carrier.

Do any of y'all have Goodman systems? Are they as bad as one rep tried to make them out to be?

We are in the Atlanta suburbs and it is a 2,000 sq ft home. I don't see us in this place more than 7-10 years tops, which is why I am
Considering the cheaper options.

I'd appreciate any and all insight the OT could offer!

I have no experience with Goodman but our American Standard is the tits. American Standard and Trane are the same ac btw. Made in the same factory with different branding.

I used to be an Amana dealer until Goodman bought them. They make absolutely the worst equipment in the industry. Bar none. I’m also in the Atlanta area but I’m now a Trane dealer. What general area are you in?

I have a Goodman in some rental property that is over 20 years old. Its on its last leg as there is a leak in the coil but I will ride it as long as I can.

I have 3 Goodman’s and I regret it. Didn’t know much about them when we built 9 years ago. Stay away from Goodman.

Peachtree City. If you do work down here I'd be more than happy to meet you.

Goodman gets a bad rap because they'll sell units to anyone, which means people who don't know what they are doing are installing them and they are failing soon after. As far as I know that within the mid-range and lower there is not a lot of difference in quality. Regular maintenance is more important though as is the location of the exterior unit. Mine is in the shade, away from grass clippings, and gets cleaned inside and out every Spring and covered before being shut off for cooler weather.

Reputable brands have more strict installation requirements for the dealers/installers. You get a better install with better results. Do it once. Correctly.

My motto. "I can't afford to buy cheap."

I’ve heard they are terrible; but had one that worked fine in my previous house for the 5 years I was in it.

I have a Goodman in a 9 year old house and we haven’t had any issues. We have a 2100 square ft house in south Louisiana and you can hang meat in here.

Eta: only complaint is the compressor seems to be a bit louder than its competitors

A good installer is more important than brand.

For the most part, Dayton makes the fan motors, Copeland or LG makes the scroll compressors.

Relays, capacitors are certainly not made by the ad company.

This is probably the biggest problem is the installer. One unit had the heat panels not wired properly or something. Upstairs unit leaked Freon 8 times in first year then installer just replaced the whole unit. All at their expense of course.
