Getting 30-40mph winds here in Amelia Island. Very little rain. Hoping the power stays on. This place has an old infrastructure. Not well kept up. Lots of trees over the power lines.

Getting some legit surf.

Off the deck.

I have a buddy off of Bayshore, aboot 2 miles N of Mcdill. He says that Bayshore is flooded. Old baw whose wife was tied down on Davis island and wanted her to fly home today will be disappointed. The exit/entrance to Davis Island is Impassable.

The NHC absolutely nailed the forecast track for #Idalia whilst it was still TD10 this past weekend. While the cone encompassed much of NW Florida, the center line highlighted landfall near Fish Creek which is almost exactly where it made landfall.

The operational hurricane models did really well overall with #Idalia's intensity evolution. Little bit of a weak bias from HAFS-A/HMON, but really solid forecasts overall, especially from HAFS-B/HWRF. Hopefully all the recon/TDR data assimilation helped with these forecasts.

You are steady at 26, w/gusts. 2pm bring 62 steady to you, with 69 gusts. If you get in a bind, I have local contacts.

Thanks. That explains the "hatchee" part...

No. Have a house rented for the week on the beach. Have about 10 family members and friends here. Breakfast is over and the drinking will start soon. Looks like we will just have today like this then tomorrow and Friday are looking pretty good. Low winds and no rain

We are getting some bands but for the most part, just some steady 30mph winds. Gusting at times 40. We have a huge house beside us that is blocking a good bit of wind off our deck so its nice sitting out there and just watching is go by.

It looks like surge was under 7ft? What changed as far as that seems very minimal for a cat 4 in an area that’s completely unprotected?

Surge in Cedar Key was at least 9 feet over normal tide.

It’s also still rising in some spots. This is the Suwannee River gage, fairly close to the landfall location, but it’s also 6 miles up river.

Nice post. This seems to have been a really well forecast storm from NHC.

I’d love to see a year end forecast accuracy score for each hurricane season.

Does anyone publish or produce something like that?

I've been begging for a CAD (Cone Accuracy Determination) for years. They won't make it public.
