Cat 5 now.
Special update has it at 160 mph winds and 925 mb pressure now
We don't have a BINGO spot for Explosive Intensification.

I know we like to frick around but prayers for Florida. Hate seeing anyone get hit by storms like this.

I do wonder with sheer, if a storm like this is so deepened, does it provide insulation to any degree from the sheer as its dominating its environment at every wind level?
Those smaller cores can come apart about as quickly as they blow up. It would still serve to really broaden the windfield, so the peak winds wouldn't be there, but a larger area would experience significant hurricane winds.

Nhc missed bigly with short term intensity forecast

In a world of overused superlatives, this is mind blowing

NHC has never been great at intensity. Track has improved tremendously.

You mad your bumps didn’t work??
Irony is the threads were probably reported by man made climate change hoaxers who now want to bump them up.

That looks like a buzzsaw SOB. Tampa and south should be wrapping up prep and hitting the road.
Hopefully it gets sheared some before Wednesday.

It's rather surreal
I remember Katrina blowing up overnight
But this has nothing in the way to slow it down other than a bit of Mexico. I hope it falls apart but my prayers are for those in Florida.

No, she went form Cat 1 to 5 in 12 hours.

Right even the most aggressive models didn’t show this type of pressure until tomorrow

I sure hope the models are accurate in regards to its weakening before landfall…
