Rays and city have been fighting over that field for a while... Guess they got a retractable roof out of the deal.

No reason to move now.

Roof must’ve been made of pulp

According to this ESPN article, the roof was "designed to withstand wind of up to 115 mph"

That will be an interesting situation. Did the winds really hit 115+ in St Pete? If not, why did the roof fail?

To think that governement officials thought it was a good idea to use a stadium with a roof made of paper towels as a storm shelter for a major hurricane.

Uncle Sam nails it again.

Not enough seats for visiting fans. Plenty for Rays fans sadly.

Sad Rays fan here.

It didn’t get used as a storm shelter.

Perhaps when new it can withstand 115mph wind.

Not sure how old it is, but I would imagine as it starts to weather over time, it might start getting brittle / losing some strength. And the wind rating probably doesn't account for debris like stick getting hurled at it and puncturing it. So, between punctures and any weathering from repeated cycles of moisture and sun exposure, compounded by minute damage from previous storms, it's not hard to imagine it failing as it did under lower speed winds.

facts don't matter RoadGator.

I liked Tropicana - saw a Rays game when I was in St Pete for business - not the best or worst ive been to, but i enjoyed it.

Today was the nicest day it's been here in FL in many months. I think we barely hit 80*F. With the wind it's made cleanup that much more tolerable

based on the Venice video and how the walls are blown out on those homes 8 to 9 ft storm surge.

Whats weird is we have a home right across the street from Venice Beach where it was the worst storm surge. Our property didn't flood at all and it is only raised like three feet off the ground

Damn, my buddy just recently moved back to his house on Sanibel Island after basically having to redo the entire first floor after Ian. They got water again from Milton.

Not a HUGE Rays fan but I'll defend them here since I live down this way. The problem is that the stadium is in St. Pete. Most of the fans are in Tampa. Nobody in Tampa wants to drive to St. Pete at 6pm for a 705 game. It's a nightmare. They need a stadium in Tampa proper but there are all kinds of issues not worth getting into here. But the Rays don't lack fans in this part of Florida
