Looks like going over land weakened it pretty quickly.

Mountains tend to do that. The winds just don't magically come down though.

She will be back over water soon and strengthen a little bit.

A good friend in San Juan texted me at 4 am central and said it was sounding really bad outside, haven't heard from him since.

Would be really neat to watch this thing crossing PR if the radar were up. Hate that we lost it, but I anticipated that it would have issues.

He texted me just now, still safe but damage is bad and still in hurricane force winds.

30' above record flood!

ERC started taking hold at the best time possible wind wise. Of course, Maria pulling a little west due to the land interaction is worse for the rainfall on the island and gets more and more of the island into the core.

Should be emerging back over water soon.

How is the message getting through the wind to your phone?

Really not a lot coming out right now.

They couldnt fly into Maria while over land. So not a lot to provide on Recon.

Most of the news coming out will be about the widespread dmg.

I saw a twitter video with a mud river going through a neighborhood in PR. Given the flood stages, I believe its real.

Models seem confident of where it will be in the next 2 days.

Mud flood

Messages can get through high winds but it tends to distort and scramble the letters around so sometimes it's hard to understand what was originally said

News will be flowing out of PR and St. Croix this afternoon. They can't recon while Maria is still over land and we lost the San Juan radar, so we're mostly flying blind until then. The future path of Maria is also in flux with a brush up the east coast to missing the CONUS.
