Man, as of this morning it looks like Jose is going to swim with the fishes. In other words, no hit the land.

unless something drastic changes you can probably take them down

Yeah, I'm actually using Jose as an excuse not to climb up on the 25 ft ladder in the 105 heat index to take them down.

Broad strokes: Jose looks better and stronger today, probably out to sea, UK Met is either drunk or a genius. Euro says OTS.
quote:
Jose's convective cloud mass has evolved from a rather shapeless one into a comma-type pattern today. This increased organization suggests that the cyclone is at least holding its own in terms of intensity. The advisory intensity of 65 kt is in agreement with a Dvorak T-number from TAFB and a Current Intensity number from SAB. The dynamical guidance shows moderate to strong shear, from varying directions, over Jose throughout the forecast period. The consensus of the intensity models shows little change in strength for the next 5 days, and so does the official forecast. This is a slight change from the previous forecast which called for Jose to weaken to a tropical storm within a day or so. Given the current trend toward better organization, however, Jose could easily intensify more than shown here.
A slight repositioning of the working best track was done using a center fix from an excellent Windsat image from earlier today. The initial motion estimate is a little south of east or 100/6 kt. The GFS and ECMWF global models show a mid-level ridge building west, then north, and then east-northeast of Jose over the next few days. As a result, it is expected that the system will execute an anticyclonic loop over the next 72 hours or so. Later in the forecast period, Jose is forecast to turn northward and north-northeastward while moving through a break in the ridge. For unknown reasons, the U.K. Met. Office model track continues to be well west and south of the other guidance. The official forecast track favors the latest GFS and ECMWF solutions, but does not go as far to the north-northeast as the ECMWF near the end of the forecast period.

12z Euro sends Jose into the Mid Atlantic from the NE after a failed attempt at OTS

Models shifting west slowly.
Oh and for your entertainment, that's Jose out in the middle of the Atlantic on the 06z GFS:
Check the timestamp.

Yep. Has it do another little loop way up off Canada and slide back down into the Atlantic heading west by then. He'd be alive for a solid month by that point, and if the GFS is right, will have not made landfall.
In the timeframe where you can actually believe the models, there has been a notable shift closer to the US when he curves out to sea. Outer banks north may want to keep an eye on him yet, but every solution so far is just a glancing blow and he's not exceptionally strong.

Do we have a thread for all those invests coming off Africa right now? Looks like they have a decent shot at forming into something. I noticed Mexico is about to get hit by a hurricane too wondering how far that goes inland.

That CAT 5 that hit them a few years ago curved up through Mexico into Texas and dumped a pretty decent amount of rain all the way into Louisiana I remember.

Yea that was Patricia. I think the shear strength of that storm is what allowed her to survive that long. That's not the norm tho.

No but the cycle sure is brutal this year for US. Texas ravaged, Florida, Louisiana hit by 2 storms only thing left to fill the quota is hit east coast with something. Seems likely at some point considering how active Atlantic has been. I wonder how many named storms we will get. I wonder if we'll approach 2005 with 31.

I don't know that we'll get that far. It's looking like it'll be one of the busiest on record though.

Well, all I know is that cold front that moved through Louisiana last week was glorious. Lasted so long. I want another one. I wish everyday in Louisiana was like that.

Correct, much needed rainfall
Posted on 9/14/17 at 11:48 am to deuce985
looks like the gfs is trying to pull one through the south central US next wednesday. doesnt seem like itll be very strong and it may ride a bit north (arkansasish) but there's potential.
I moved to wichita recently and we got down to like 50 the night after the last one passed. twas glorious.
