From there but had moved by then. Most of my family was still there.

Your life probably isn't in danger but your quality of life is. How long are you prepared to be without power?
Go do all the basic preliminary stuff today. Gas up your vehicle, charge your devices, stock up on fresh water and food that doesn't require refrigeration. Ice down and cooler (and some beers). Pull some cash out. I'm a few hours east and i'm anticipating power outages

I think we all need to start pronouncing it like I-see-arse and maybe they will get rid of ridiculous names everyone trips over.

Will my flight out of New Orleans at 9 a.m. Friday be canceled? Can someone help me figure this out?
At this point, the storm is still 18 hours from hitting way over in the panhandle area. So I would say, no, they're not gonna cancel your flight in New Orleans. Like I told somebody on another thread. If you really worried you won't get out, and you HAVE to get there, call the airline and ask to go out of baton rouge, lafayette or jackson mississippi.

Yeah. I guess there are a limited number of names starting with I in most languages - Spanish and English included.
Ishmael would have been a good one.

That’s some sound advice. That’s why I’m here. Thank you!

All depends on your location in Pensacola. Are there trees that can hit your house if they fall? If you are decently inland and don't have tree issues I would stay. Near the water and/or have trees I'd GTFO.
Tree's aren't a concern.
I live about a mile inland from the bay and bayou texar, but my house is in a neighborhood on a "hill," about 16-17 feet above sea level.

Good way to put it.
I always say that the aftermath is always worse than the storm itself if you are in a well-built structure away from the waterfront unless you are unlucky enough to be hit by a tornado or have a tree fall on your house.

Where do you live? I grew up off of Gulf Beach highway and we rode out Ivan. Was not fun for 6th grade me. Without power for over 30 days

I'm sure you'd be fine unless this thing bombs the frick out and weakens just before landfall, before the surge has a chance to fall (similar to what happened with Katrina).
Have you checked your local storm surge maps? What neighborhood are you in? I'll see what I can find

Is a hurricane that strong even possible?
Posted on 10/7/26 at 11:32 am to LSUblondie
Shoot I’m flying into Nola at midnight Friday night. Starting to think it might get canceled but if it keeps shifting eastward then maybe I’ll be good?

You have to remember an American sized smedium is a monster unit in Korea.
So you have to convert their forecast accordingly.
