If they lived in shacks like everyone says, at least it shouldn't be too hard to rebuild.

It was also mentioned that that's not accurate. If it was, why would it be a big deal to not be in contact with the island if everyone left? Who would be there to talk? Robots?

It seems like Irma has been spinning out there for weeks. Hard to believe we're still 3-4 days away from potential mainland contact

11 a.m. advisory
vs 5 p.m. advisory
not much has changed with the cone.

But people are actually saying it so it's not impossible that people are saying it. I even quoted the tweet.
I know. I'm not calling out you, just the absurdity of the tweet.
If you're getting reports of 1 fatality and 1000+ fatalities, and there are only 1600 or so people on the island in the first place, logic dictates the number is much closer to 1 than 1000+.

It was mentioned about 25 times in this thread that the whole island was evacuated
Never mind. My comment obviously went over both of your heads.
Carry on.

I think the death toll will rise but can't imagine nearly the entire population dying. this is the main town Codrington, those buildings don't look hurricane proof

Overseas Hwy should be contraflowing right now.

They ought to use this as an opportunity to build a bunch of raised concrete structures. They only have 1,000 people. It won't be that hard.

Is that Codrington or north Baton Rouge?

Presentation of Irma, somehow, improving this afternoon. The field of cold cloudtops has expanded and it's more symmetrical, though not the perfect circle Irma was showing yesterday at this time. Not surprising at all to see the pressure once again dropping, some 8 mb since mid-morning.
She's only got warmer water ahead on the approach to Florida too.

Just got home. Have to drive a few miles on the interstate and man, there are a shitload of Broward and Dade county tags on the road. They are getting the hell out of Florida altogether.

Maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but it looks like she's starting to go more north.

Just insane it has stayed at 185 winds this long.

Not if you live at the tip of Florida or Georgia/SC/NC. If it misses Puerto Rico it maintains its strength.
