Also some guy came in while I was there and bought every generator they had
Hurricane Ivan bought me a new F250 this way. I was in the powersports business at the time. I bought two 28ft trailer loads of generators and sold them to my dealers and some to friends.

Right now its tied with the labor day hurricane as the third most powerful globally ever next to Super Typhoon Patricia at 215MPH and Allen 190MPH so it won't take much more to get it there.

still don't get how a plane could fly in that shite. Are they way above the storm somehow lower equipment down into it?
I think they use modified Lockheed Orions. I would not want to be on them when they fly over these things.

Yeah, and IF it can withstand the winds, what about the storm surge?

I guess if any building can handle it relatively intact, it would be a heavily reinforced concrete prison with almost no windows.
It looks awfully close to the water to me. I'm shocked they wouldn't evacuate.

They aren't going to evacuate the inmates from the Jail on Stock Island (key west). Said it's built to sustain Cat 5. Them baws gonna be scattering like roaches when that building crumbles
I look forward to Jeff's Periscope from the prison yard.

They use stock P-3s and C-130s. They're modified to carry the scientific equipment but structurally they are the same.

Maybe the prison is made by the same guys who built the Blue Shed

I feel like being in a concrete prison with massive storm surge heading your way is not ideal, even if it can withstand 200mph winds.

I'd imagine his street cred is off the charts currently. He'll be running his own prison gang by the time it's over.

He's got real guts...but I just don't see anyone with even a cursory understanding of the weather voluntarily putting themselves on a relatively small island in direct path of this storm.

Never seen that color in the northern eyewall on a microwave pass before. That's basically off the scale.
Estimated rainfall in the eyewall, also pushing at the limits of the scale. Indicative of an incredible amount of condensation. The eye is warming more based on that, and if anything it's gotten stronger since the last recon pass.
Recon findings ought to be frightening based on those images.

Seems like Key West is going to get rolled with catastrophic winds and surge if this thing does not change course.

Maybe it's built up higher than it looks. The photos make it look like the whole bottom floor is used only for bus parking.
I feel bad for anyone (prisoners, personnel, and guards) stuck there. Yikes.

If it stays with 185 mph winds, no one will stream from the eye wall. Wind gusts will flip a vehicle with ease, and the majority of structures will fail.

Not enough.

I agree.
And I think Miami airport would probably end up closed for a pretty long time after that.

Gas station lines are picking up in West Palm Beach. Just drove into downtown and all the gas stations I passed on the way had lines at the pumps.
