I think the speculation was that if the eye continued to warm, now at 20C, it would get to 200MPH.

And my jax buddy just gave me the "we will leave if we need to" after telling him to get on the road

looks like NOAA9 (the Uppel Level Recon mission) is now looking at a low north of Irma... trying to get a reading of what kinda tug it would provide on Irma I suppose

It was tested by Wilma in 2005, and others.
I think Harvey is just making everyone super on edge.

My parents just retired and moved to Florida from Chicago. They're in between Tampa and Ocala. My parents did get a mini lesson in hurricane prep as they were visiting me in BR when Isaac rolled through, but was nothing compared to this beast.

I think that would make it the most powerful to hit the US main land if it doesn't turn. Was anything else that powerful?
200mph can knock some pretty massive buildings down. It can certainly leave transportation and utility infrastructure crippled for months.
Highest I ever saw was 120 sustained. I want nothing to do with anything like that again.

Bucs @ Dolphins game officially moved out of Miami this Sunday (well duh)
hope to have announcement of game plan tonight at some point... looking at either a neutral site this Sunday or in Miami week 11 (when both teams have bye week)

TD 13 forms in the Southwestern GOM. Will not be a threat for the USA.

It's still 5 days away from jax. There's being prepared and there's panicking. Everything here is calm. People are preparing but no reason to ditch town yet.

They aren't going to evacuate the inmates from the Jail on Stock Island (key west). Said it's built to sustain Cat 5. Them baws gonna be scattering like roaches when that building crumbles

IMO you should talk them into a road trip to Graceland or Hot Springs this weekend.
This thing is too powerful to trust the weather service entirely. A slight track North can really bring Tampa, Orlando and even Jacksonville into this.

Thanks to the pilots of the hurricane hunters.
Not like I want to fly through 215 mph gusts. They have to feel like they are riding a roller coaster with no safety bars, just belts on. Can you imagine?
Imagine is all I can handle!

quote:I still don't get how a plane could fly in that shite. Are they way above the storm somehow lower equipment down into it?
it's at 185... but a plane hasn't been in the eye wall for a few hours now
who knows what's happened since that plane left

Imagine being the poor bastard making $30k per year to guard those scumbags now being told your arse gets to watch them as Irma rips your city off the map.

I would love to see photos of this alleged Cat-5 proof jail.
Seems like Key West is going to get rolled with catastrophic winds and surge if this thing does not change course.
