The colors on the color sat images show cloud top temperatures. The blacks and dark reds are colder. A tropical cyclone is basically taking all that warm moist air off the ocean and cooling the shite out of it. The more it cools, the more heat energy it is taking in to convert to winds and a stronger storm.
More deep convection wrapping symmetrically tells you the storm is picking up strength and organizing.

Rainbow or RBtop will get the point across. Let you see the eye and how the convection is doing.
Visable is awesome when the sun is over it.
The shortwave, Dvorak, and others arent going to be as useful.
